So they finally announced and showed the new 2017 super duty....

My PERSONAL THOUGHTS:  :nono: Bad Ford!!!:icon_mad:

Haven't had time to dig into the articles as they are currently flying out, but it looks like it will have the F-150 Cab and Bed with a new front end. Personally I think that they would have been better off just using the F-150 cab and the EXACT front end off the Atlas concept truck. There is WAY too much GM in the front end of the 2017.

Again these were my personal thoughts.... Looks like if I'm going to upgrade I need to do it ASAP before the model year order switch mid next year.... That or go to the dark side of Dodge with the Cummins. I'll never go anything GM/Chevy (again personal choice).

Give me your thoughts? And for everyone, please remember these are personal opinions... NO bashing others, keep it to the truck.

I think the only resemblance to a chevy is that they both have headlights on the outside of the front with a grill in the middle. Really with the head lights wrapping about the 2 big bars I don't see it looking like any GM. But that is just me.

I like some of the new features. 7 cameras, TPMS for the trailer. Then to lose probably close to 1000 pounds going to aluminum and only dropping 350 because you beefed up everything else. I bet the cargo and tow ratings are going to be very high.

Saying all that I got my 2015 for the long haul and with these prices I don't see upgrading for a long time. I do think the vertical F-x50 on the side looks wrong.

I think the styling is fine. The new tech features will be popular.
BUT, has regen been improved? Will the 10 speed auto trans be reliable? Do 2WD still use twin I beam? Are the SRW rear axles still Sterling/Visteon or beefed up the same standards as GM and Ram? Bigger ball joints? 9th injector to stop fuel dilution in crankcase oil on 6.7 Pstroke? Better a/c evaporator? Easier serviceability? REAL water/fuel separation? Fuel filter not expensive and yet made of crap plastic? Radiator mounting that doesn't stress and fail radiators? 6.7 vacuum pump that doesn't leak oil? Gears in extendable mirrors that don't crack when 4 years old after B2B warranty expires?

These are the things that stop me from buying.

Ford, are they really built Ford tough? Is it better to be only a stockholder and not an owner?

Spot on Jimmy------I have an early build 2011. No major problems so far but I lack the confidence of my old bullet proof Ford Trucks. On my old 7.3's I knew that each year they got better and better and my last one of the three I owned was awesome. ---- But on the 6.7's I just have this feeling that Ford simply is not going to eventually deal with all the issues you mention and get it all right. --------- And by the way, I think the new 17 look does have that "soft" GM look. IMHO

I like it. I'm wondering what size tires they have on the 450's? They look more like LT tires than 19.5 commercials. Are they 20's?!

I haven't had my f350 for a year and a half now. I was really looking forward the next gen super duty. This reveal was disappointing for me. I was really hoping to hear some specs and see a new "tougher" look. This truck looks like they ripped the front end off of a Chevy, and the other truck I was excited about, the Titan XD looks like a last gen f150. Do designers have any creativity anymore or do they just borrow designs cues from other manufacturers.

It seems like Ford spent most of their time worrying about gadgets that will drive the price up then they did truck design and addressing known issues. Will the stiffer frame keep flexing from cracking the radiator? I know my assessment is premature having not seen an actual truck yet, but I was really hoping to hear more about the 3rd gen Scorpion engine. I also hoped for an Ecoboost in the new generation, or at least a new gas motor. Seems like the same power trains are just getting tweaked in this new generation. I also think they missed the boat by not bringing out an 8 or 10 speed tranny.

the emblems on the fenders look hideous..

i like the grill/headlights- the interior is much better-- finally push button start and i assume proximity key.. thats 5 years behind ..

i like the older mirrors better- these ones look too much like nissan Titan.. and im really not sure on the dually flares but that would have to see in person.

im sure i will end up with one- unless its not nice in person- i have had an 11 a 12 a 14 and now a 15.. the 15 is 2 weeks old.. i bought it with the intention of selling it in 6 mos to get a 17.. so now the wait to see when can order and at what price before i decide to swap up..

Excited for the bigger supercab. Glad they kept the suicide doors unlike GM. Hoping they have the moon roof like the F-150. Will be interested in actual specs, but pretty excited about the new truck. Wish manual transmissions hadn't gone the way of the dodo.

Looks are ok, I drive an Avalanche now and have a 2nd gen Dodge, so clearly looks aren't that critical to me.

Why why why the badge??? Can it be painted black or body color to make it livable?? That badge alone might send people to Chevy or Dodge. Who does that. REALLY?? Everything on that truck is horizontal...why not keep a similar HORIZONTAL logo like the 16's to make the truck lines flow. Jesus....did Ford give Clark Griswold one day to pick an accessory....lol

That badge kind of looks like cheap bling.

It's going to take some time to get used to it I think. Took me a while for the 08's to grow on me when they first came out, the 11's too. This is quite a radical change and it's more contemporary than e have ever seen a heavy/Super duty truck.
As far as the F-50 vertical badge, yeah it could be better but it's not the only vertical thing on the truck. Look at the headlights. They look vertical to me.
Bottom line is Ford has been criticized for years by the media and anyone that has done reviews on their products because they're trucks are bulky, overweight , get bad fuel mileage etc… so chill out. I expect this truck to get best in class fuel mileage, power and towing numbers.
To tell you the truth, I was hoping for a big ole beefy, scary looking truck but I get why they did what they did. I think this will grow on us all

I get what you're saying Lari...but the headlights flow with everything else on the grill....which is ALL horizontal lines.....even though the lights are stacked vertical. But look down the side of the truck. NEW door handles are slimmer/horizontal....reflectors on the new uglier mirrors are slim and horizontal...running boards and rear sticker.....both stripes on the grille are horizontal..no up and down cross members this time and then you get to that damn badge. Just sticks out like a sore thumb. Will I get one...yes. Will I and everyone get used to the subtle changes....yes. And it will be a badass truck. But I purposely DID NOT get an 08 just because of headlights. Some people are like that...and I am one of them. 06 lights were cool....2011 lights were cool....2008 were the ugliest headlights I've ever seen on a truck..hands down. I pull my camper and boat with my truck and I give a crap what it looks like...because I can..as can many others. Unfortunately, i'm not on the Ford design group....lol

Looks like the theme here was vertical rectangles with one corner lopped off. I see it in the mirrors, dash vents, taillights, etc......and I believe Clark W Griswald had taillights on his station wagon that may have served for the designers inspiration. Makes me glad I didn't wait and got a 2015.

Also...make up your mind on the dually fenders...make it a visibly appealing round...or visibly appealing squarish.....don't incorporate BOTH into the design...it's too busy and just does not look good.

Can't wait fo r the new truck and all the new features. I am excited for new dually fenders, not the best but never like the ones on the 11 to 16 trucks. I like current mirrors better and not a fan of the fender emblems, but again overall there is no questions I am dumping my 12 for a 17. Almost bought a 15 but glad I didn't because I just would have lost that much more in depreciation. At least this way mine will be mostly paid for and give me a good down payment. Obviously all these new features will come with a price!
