On my 2002 and 2015 I installed the 7 pin trailer harness in the area behind the taillight. I was wonder if it can be installed in the same location on the 2022 I have on order.
I like this area because I use my bed and Its out of the way

Thats slick location right there. Not sure you have access to the stake pocket on the newer trucks. I had the same issue on my 15. I bought a new plug and I cant remember where but I went to home depot and bought a box and made something that has worked great. I found out later that I could get one from Ford that was much nicer. You have to find a truck that has the plug and take the vin to the dealer so he can order the plug. I drilled a hole in the side of my bed so I could run the wires. so far after 6 years and it's still working fine. I put mine under the bed rails because I didn't like the location low on the sides of the bed. Mine has worked perfect in that location.

The factory trailer plug is basically in the very same area with the gooseneck/5th wheel option. If you don't have the option you can buy the OEM 7-pin connector and harness and add it for a nice plug and play installation and it does come with a template to locate and drill the needed holes. If the 2021 has room in the same location you pictured I see no reason why you could not do the same since you will have to drill holes anyway. I don't know if the part numbers in the following video will work for your 2021 but yo can ask your parts department at your favorite Ford dealer.
