I used a 205 on the ZF in my truck. It will fit right on the splines and the bolts line up, but you have to notch the flange on the back of the transmission for the transfer case shift linkage. You may have to change yokes on either the driveshaft or the 205; I do not know if they will be the same or not. I think your t-case shifter will work, but you will have to fab a new link between the shifter and the t-case. I don't know about overall length, either. You may have to shorten or lenghten your driveshafts. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

[/ QUOTE ]The 205 is definitely shorter, so I will have to extend the rear driveshafts. As far as the front shaft goes, I'll either have to shorten it or remove one of the two U-joints by the T case. RB

[/ QUOTE ]What size ujoint do you have in your rear output yoke? I went and picked up a bigger output yoke today and it takes a joint with a 1 1/16 cap and I need one with a 1 3/16 cap. I could downsize to a 1 1/16 cap joint but I would rather find a bigger output yoke if they ever made one that big for a 205. Thanks RB

I had a shaft built with 1410 u-joints in it. I am not sure of the diameter, but any parts house should be able to give you dimesions on it. You can order about any size yoke you need from a good driveline shop. They will probably need shaft diameter, spline count, and length when you call.

Tim, I have to highjack this post and compliment you on your ride! Very cool, awesome setup...You must really turn some heads when you come rolling by people that know what a PSD sounds like! They probubly can't figure it out right away.

OK, Sorry for the off topic post /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif just had to do it!

RB, I maybe able to help after all...I had real good service from Jesse at HighAngle Driveline. If your interested I'll look through my crap and try to find his number.

[/ QUOTE ]I'll have to agree, thats one cool truck! It looks beter than my 94, but I live in the rust belt. My truck is in need of another paint job and its been painted 4 times that I know of. My cab is off a 86 ford and I have kicked the idea around of changing the front clip to have the 80's look. Maybe some day. RB

I was looking at my 205 and wondering the same thing; will it work in place of the 1356? Thanks for answering this 72Pstroke. I see a modification in the near future. Can you stand another compliment on your truck? Well done....

I'm really surprised more people havent done this swap. A 205 is 10X the TC a 1356 is. I was tempted to change my TC 2 years ago when I had the truck cut in half making it into an extended cab. But I decided to run it 1 more year. Well its still in there so it will get swaped out before the snow flies this year. I know the low range in the 205 is 1.96/1 anyone know what the low range in the 1356 is? RB

Seems like I saw where it was 2.69. I'm going to go through my 205 and throw on some 1410 yokes. At least I'd have a spare. BUT, the 1356 is light. I was suprised when I had mine out.

Are all 205's the same torque rating? I have one from a 79 f150 but didn't know if it's heavy enough for a psd.

Thanks, Jeff

Dirt_Farmer, I really don't know. Some of those BBF gas motors put out a bunch of torque too. My guess is that it would do fine, especially in a truck like mine. (stock 95)
FWIW I know a guy that runs one behind a 700hp BBF. He can roast all 4 of his 44" boggers. I think he does run stronger bearing plates though.

As far as I know, all 205's are the same. Mine is out of a 79 F-350, and it is doing OK.

Thanks guys, my plan in the near future is to buy a cc dualy and convert it to 4wd. It would be nice to use this 205 I already have. Maybe make it into a divorced set up so I don't have to get a 4wd output shaft for the tranny.

Thanks, Jeff

i wanted to do the divorced thing but i think it would require a different front fuel tank for me... regular cab is kinda short.

[/ QUOTE ]The only differences are the out put yokes. Sad but true that a 79 f150 TC is stronger than a new F350 TC. This is the trend and getting worse. Just look at the Honda car they call the Ridgeline. Opps I mean look at the new Honda truck called the ridgeline. What a POS. RB

[/ QUOTE ]If you look in the May 05 issue of Petersons 4wheel& off-road there is an article on the 205. They call it the toughest transfer case available. "The venerable NP205 transfer case has a reputation for being as tough as a rock, but the truth is-it's even tougher. Just let this cast-iron beauty slam down on a boulder and watch the chips scatter." "We've seen this geardriven case used and abused by massive amounts of big block touque and monster tires and run to death with water in the oil,and we've been constantly amazed at its durability. In fact, we doubt this unit, properly maintained, could be seriously hurt." I doubt a PSD will hurt one. RB
