4R100 strength?

The 4R100 is rated for 1000 ft lbs of torque (horsepower means nothing to the tranny in itself, although an increase in HP without an increase in engine peak RPM usually means more torque).

Anyway, 1000 lbt sounds like a lot and none of our engines produce that much, but thats what a torque conveter does - turns high input RPMs into higher torque output, so that actual torque being applied to the rest of your tranny is not easy math.

For what it's worth. the 5R100 is rated for 1100 ft lb. (the last 3 digits are the torque rating X 10.)

Most manual tranny's have a much lower rating (sometimes as little as half)
