Well here is my first post, I have an 2002 f350 with a glitch in its transmission. On initial start up only, after engine starts, I have reverse, then neutral, but no fwd. Truck is equipped with a tach. Rpms drop in rev, truck moves. Put in neutral, rpm rises, shift to fwd and rpm rises. put back in neutral rpms drop a bit, put in fwd rpms go up. After 30 seconds to 3 minutes it will go into drive and work perfect until the next cold start up. tested pressures, no codes, fluid fine. It's been doing this for over a year now. Revving up the engine sometimes works and sometimes not. There may be a ghost in this truck. It runs to good to take it out of service. I will appreciate any advice that I may receive. Thanks in advance.

Harry I'm not a autotrans guy but am curious about flow. By chance have you tried pulling the rubber hose from the trans return metal line going to back of trans and send fluid into a bucket? Have you confirmed the plastic shifter cable attachment piece with teeth on it for adjustment is in good shape and firmly locked in?

Just putting a couple quick things out there till one of our inhouse autotrans guys come along.

Also if you have a borescope, you can all try unplugging plug on right rear of trans and look down into trans receptacle and see if it is filled with ATF. I discovered this on my last job but honestly have no idea if this would apply to your situation.

Fear not our new friend, we have guys here with black belts in auto transes. They will be along soon.

The only thing I can think of that could cause this is a damaged seal in the forward clutch. When the seal warms up it can seal better.
