My 5R110 dropped reverse last week. All forward gears seem to work as advertised. I was thinking about a total rebuild (120k) until reading about the trans go shift kit. It speaks about prventing the loss of reverse. Which leads me to believe there could be a problem with just the reverse workings of the tranny. Just wondering if this is a viable assumption or if I need to spend the money on a rebuild? Don't know a lot about tranys so any assistance is greatley appreciated. Thanks

If memory serves, there's a TSB out about the 5R110 having problems with Reverse gear.

No tsb, that was for the snap ring walking out of its groove. The end result was a cracked case. I wonder if you just have a bad solenoid and there is nothing wrong with the trans mechanically. Hopefully Mark K will respond to your post. Nobody knows more about the 5r110 then he does. Good luck, but i suspect it is something simple.

Yes there was a recall or CSP # 04B24 on certain 04 Transmission reverse planetarys. Was done on my truck in 2004. Pull the external filter and check for metal, if nothing, its probably just a shift solenoid as mentioned.
