I just bought a 2005 6.0L F350 and am not familiar with how it should sound but it seem odd to me that the sound is significantly louder until the engine warms up. I just wonder if the HPOP isn't operating as well as it should until the engine oil is warmer or if it is normal operation...

thanks in advance for the information.

It is normal and it is due to the engine calibration. You should notice it being quieter when the weather warms up.

Is that just advancing the timing? Or is it ramping up the icp to compensate for cold oil?
Never really put much thought into it. Lol
Could also be stiction, no?

Timing, fuel rate etc... stiction? no. Not unless it runs rough on cold starts the maybe. 05

Hammering is common in diesel engines, much more so in the colder months.
