First I have to say thank you ford. I had a 2003 6.0 with some issues and a call to the BBB, 3 weeks and ford took my 03 and gave me an 08 for what I owed left on my 03. This new truck rocks. The questions I have are 1> has anybody had their dealer tell them that the oil changes could only be done by them (ford) 2> are the fuel and oil filters the same for the 6.0 and the 6.4 ? I used to change the oil and filters my self and probably still will. Thanks for any input. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

I don't have any info for you, but you are one lucky SOB! I plan to trade my '05 in, and I expect a serious kick in the pocketbook.

Its one of the whatcha may call its screwed onto the engine.

Dealers seems to want your business pretty bad by telling you to come back for an oil change or is trying to drive a quick lube joint out of business in your town.

Ahhhh, Kwickee-Loob. When my Dad was alive, I could always tell when he had an oil change. He'd phone asking how many grease zerks his car had... standard reply "Four, Dad... go back and get them to do the other two".

Kwickee-Loob.... yes, I want my truck serviced by an under-achiever. And sell me the wallet flush too, please.

I can't say that a poorly chosen dealer isn't going to give any better... but at least you'll have the service records if a concern arises.

Favorite person to do my oil changes. Me! Then I know it is done right. I have total faith in the mechanics at my dealership. But the kids doing the lube and oil are no better than the guy at Lube Ex. Many times at many different dealers I have had to go back to the dealer cause I looked under the truck and their was still dirt on the T case check hole and the grease nipples were covered with dirt. Not bashing dealerships but lubey's come and go. The good ones move up fast.
However at least when some kid at ford screws up then there is no problem getting it fixed. I have had lots of mistakes made with my many trucks but all dealer sorted it out in the end. That is what matters!

Was told by Ford that oil filter "and" fuel filter pair" are the same for 6.0 and 6.4. The difference is the air filter and the serpentine belt and that depends on the alternator option ie: heavy duty or twin alternators. Just what the dealer told me. Oil filter # FL-2016 and Fuel flter (2 required)# FD-4604. FYI.

Didn't anyone read the owner guide supplement? The oil filter is now a cartridge type on top not a spin on type underneath.

The spin-on's down underneath went away with the end of the 7.3L's about Nov. 3rd, 2002 in the early 2003 models. The 6.0L oil filter is a cartridge type up topside.

Again I am not trying to be rude but if that is what is in the owners manual then it is wrong too. I just looked it up on FMCdealer and I was off by a digit it is a FD4609 for the fuel filter.

8C3Z 9N184 A KIT - FILTER DUEL ELEMENT With Seals - 6.4L Diesel FD 4609

I have the 4609 in stock and will look at it tomorrow and see what the difference is.

Thats almost $200.00 just for the filters if you let the dealership do the change. How much would the labor be at $70.00 per hour?
