Hello everyone! New to the forum. I've got a 2008 F450 flatbed with a 6.4 Diesel with 110,000 km (68,000 miles) on it. Bought it new and have had my share of issues with it. Overall it's been a great truck but lately there's a tapping noise coming from the engine. Seems to be coming from the passenger side. It was fairly loud a few days ago but it's barely audible now. It seems to get louder when you shift in to Drive. Took it to the mechanic but he couldn't figure it out. Taking it to the dealership tomorrow. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's my only truck and I plow with it in the winter. Thank you in advance!

Rocker arm issues are pretty common on 6.4's. You might want to get the cover off that side and have a look just in case...before a ton of damage is done if it's the problem. Check the push rods at the same time......

The noise is pretty much gone now. Took it to the dealer and another diesel shop and both said that it can't be a rocker arm. Truck is running fine, but I kinda get the feeling that I'm on borrowed time. Would it be best to take off the valve cover and check?

Did you change your oil just before the tapping started? There was a thread on here a while back (maybe a couple years ago) about tapping noises after an oil change, strange as it might seem. Sounds weird but several people said they'd had it happen. IIRC, it would go away after a while but I don't remember the details. OTOH, it mighta been on another forum but you might want to search here for it.
