I have an 87 6.9L diesel that sat for about 4 years. The injector pump had gummed up so I replaced it. I started bleeding the injector lines and everything seemed great but when I cracked the line on cylinder 8 it puffed air like a backfire. Is this from injector pump timing or a bad/stuck injector.

I've never heard this truck run and I'd really like to hear it run before investing in injectors.

I would tend to think it is a bad injector. I bought a 90 few years back, it had a miss and would pressurize the fuel tank blow pressure out when took cap off. Swapped in a good cured problem.

It was a bad injector, I pulled the injector apart and put all the parts in my ultrasonic cleaner which cleaned it really well. I put it back together, reinstalled it and it cleared up the problem.
