I was looking at the Ford website and I believe the Catapillar engine offerd is a 7.2L. What is the actual model # of this engine. Is it a C-7 ACERT engine or something different? How much does it weigh? How big is it? Would it fit in a pickup, say an F-350 Super Duty?

That is the C7 and it is dimensionally larger than a Cummins ISB 5.9.
The 5.9 Cummins just barely fits so I think the taller and longer C7 would be a stretch. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE with a torch, plasma cutter, MIG, TIG, some metal, and enough cash.

I've heard of one in an f350. Did not see any pictures. The C7 is pretty much the 3126B & E of a few years ago.

Someone on here has a f350 with a 8.1 Cummins in his 93 or 94. Anything will fit if you try.

I was once told by a CASE IH mechanic that the 8.3 Cummins block is 1" longer than the 5.9. Back to CAT, what about the old 3116. What replacd it. I had assumed that it was the C-7, but looking back at it I always thought that the C-7 looked bigger than a 3116 when I was wrenchen on trucks back at work. If I was going to a CAT conversion I would like to use something 3116 sized.

First it was the 3116, then the 3126, then the C7. Also there might have been the 3176/3196 in there somewhere, as well as the C9 I think. Some people don't think very highly of any of them. They put out ridiculous high HP for their size which is never a good thing

I wouldn't really worry about the weight as much, we have an 8.9L Cummins/big Allison combo in the boss superduty, and we haven't had any issues with the stock 60 in the front.

The C-7 Cat IS the replacement for the 3116/3126 L-6 engine. http://ohe.cat.com is the direct link for on-highway caterpillar engines. The cubic inch displacment is 441, that's 4 less than our beloved 7.3 PSD. Here's the shakedown specs for the new C-7:

Cylinders In-Line 6
Bore/Stroke 4.33 x 5.00 (110mm x 127mm)
Displacement 7.2 L (441 cu in)
Weight 1295 lb (588 kg)
Horsepower 190 to 350 @ 2400 rpm
Torque 520-860 lb-ft @ 1440 rpm
