Hello, I recently came across an old work truck from a family member. I am trying to get it started but know almost nothing about trucks internals much less diesel engines. What are some of the things that I should do to get it going? Oh! and it has been sitting for at least 5 years. Anything is appreciated just trying to learn what I should do to get her in good running shape.

Have you tried yet? Start with two GOOD batteries. Have a charger handy for when you run them down trying to start it. Then turn the key, let the glow plugs cycle, and hit the starter. If it doesn't start, then look for the presence of fuel. Let us know what happens, and someone can walk you through it. If it starts, then let it warm up, and change the oil. If the tanks aren't completely full, get some algaecide and put it into them. Keep PLENTY of fuel filters, because if there is algae in the tanks you will be changing them frequently.
