Ive been looking into Ken's head studs but havent committed to making that leap yet. Im just not sure if I can justify 675( /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif) for 34 studs...

I plan on installing propane later, and already turned up the IP, and have a 3" ATS turbo downpipe ready to install...Would this be likely to cause premature gasket failure? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Do you think that they would be worth it for me?
I dont want to have to take the engine out for 300,000 miles after this...

If I do not get Ken's head studs, I will be reusing hte old ones, as they are fine and the threads are not warped or mangled...

Edit: Basically Im worried tha the 153000 psi OEM will stretch, but know the 290000 psi studs will not...

if you ever plan on or might ever decide to do more than just pane then studs are well worth it.If your gonna turn up the boost and try to get maximum power out of the engine studs are worth it.If your just gonna drive the truck and not tinker too much studs are still worth it for cheap insurance but not required.Any engine I build will have studs though.I believe in over doing it!After all,I am the captian of the Enterprise now!And with this legacy you cannot over do it!

Don't give up on him, just takes him a while to get back to folks, busy guy. I have to keep calling and eventually I catch him. I try to call in the morning, seems to be the best time to catch him. The studs will not let you down and you will see once you get the turbo and propane really pumping, the studs will give you a huge piece of mind. Scotty

He is a {Censored} to get in touch with but well worth it.Try between 2pm and 5pm CST.That is when I have been most successful in getting him on the horn.

You would just have to know the Enterprise.....Everyone jokes about their truck having a life....well this one does....and it is pissed about being in the salt free south.Ran Perfect per Travis even with a stomach ache but gets down here and NOTHING WORKS!Fuel pump circuit was dead,tank selector was dead,kept running out of fuel on the way from unloading to the shop since there was no fuel pump running,blew the heater hose off the water pump(that one....I have to blame on Travis....Shame shame.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bleh.gif.In his haste to put the engine back together and back in the old girl(so the Neighborhood Gestapo wouldn't raise holy {Censored}) he put the clamp on the fitting instead of the hose.....but then again,he drove her around the block to show it was running to buy time with the locals and it didn't blow.....maybe it was part due to the E......

havent given up yet, and wont...ARP's head studs are 900 something for the 7.3L turbo...stupid big corperation..

Had the same questions awhile back. When I talked to Ken,he said that there is not a great demand for the 7.3L studs, therefore the higher cost for machining. The same with ARP. Just give him some time. I know he is swamped right now as Darrin just got his truck back from him and is happy as a clam. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif

Guys.. I worked with an engineer for 3 months at ARP about 7.3 studs. They don't make a set but will stop procuction to run off a set BUT... It will cost you.... $1100.00 to $1300.00 and a 4 to 6 week wait. Oh yes.... They would be about 190,000 psi.... Not the 270,000 psi Ken has. Sur, they are stronger than stock or used bolts but why mess around. Buy the best once and be done with it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif
