Hi
I have a 92 F250 with a blown up 7.3. It has 5 speed manual trans. I can get a 6.9 with under 100,000 miles for $500. I was thinking of using all the glow plug stuff from my 7.3 and was wondering about the flywheel. Will I need to buy a new 6.9 flywheel to use with my 5 speed or can i get by with my flywheel on the 7.3?
Is there anything else that I should use off my destroyed 7.3 on the 6.9 when i do the swap?

Thanks!

greetings
if you use the 12volt glow plug circuit you will need to use those gp not the 6.9, you should be able to use your 7.3 trans stuff
good luck should be a cinch

Thanks. I found this and am wondering if it is true or if the main concern is to not switch the balancer?? It says vibration may be encountered, has anyone used a 7.3 flywheel on a 6.9 and had good or bad results??

Flywheel -
IMPORTANT. DO NOT USE 6.9 flywheel or vibration damper on 7.3 or vice versa. If components are intermixed, engine vibration and premature component wear may be encountered.

I wish there were a reference for the imbalances of each engine like there are for Ford gas engines. International probably publishes the spec's. Sometimes the imbalance is corrected in the balancer, sometimes in the flywheel, and sometimes in both. By Ford's warning posted above, it appears the case for the 6.9 and 7.3 is that both are used to correct imbalance. But that's just an assumption.

You may be able to have the 7.3L flywheel rebalanced to the 6.9L imbalance, or get a 5 speed flywheel for the 6.9L.

I know people have swapped the flywheels between the engines without any changes. I personally would not do it. The problem isn't the "vibration" you might feel, but the "imbalance" in the rotating assemblies that will cause wear and damage.
