I have a 1992 F-250 7.3, i'm having hard shifts on 1-3 gear and my O/D is flashing. i've had the throttle body senor checked, tweaked, and replaced. cant seem to pin point the problem. had a lot of work done prior to problem, including new fuel pump. any idea's would be appreciated. P.S. this truck just broke 100,000 miles, and i've put a lot of money into trying to fix this problem.

7.3 1992 f-250 O/D flashing and rough shifting

If the O/D light is flashing you need to scan for code. Youll need a powerstroke capable scanner like ae and go from there.

Oil lever good? How old is the oil?

Ok, try to scan the truck for code. Other than that .... I'm not a transmission guy so can't advise more than that.

Like i said if the O/D light is flashing, more than likely you have transmission code and it will guide you to your problem

The most common fault with the E4OD is the tach sensor or the VSS. If either your tach or speedo is not working there is your problem with shifting as you noted.

The VSS is on the rear axle by the pumpkin, wires there can short or connector corroded.

The tach sensor is mounted on the IP gear housing, frequently the wires get bare and can short out, also the connectors to the EEC become corroded, there is also a relay hanging down on drivers side near the firewall that can become defective, another relay that might be there is the tow relay. The EEC is behind the drivers kick panel.

AS Mark noted in another post, if the relay is bad it won't power up the TCM.
