02 7.3 has slop in the shift rod, i thought the little black roller under the dash might help straighten it out... But it killed my dash lights. My dash doesnt do anything now. And now my truck wont start. But batterys are reading just over 12V. Im going to slow down and dig into fuses tomorrow. But im just a little lost that it doesnt even want to start. It acts as if the batterys are dead. Ive checks terminals, connections and my wires under the dash. Just trying to get more ideas.

My truck needs about 12.3v to start.

Not saying that is your problem but you may want to put a charger on the batteries until they come up to atleast 12.6v.

Hello
my 2 cents check grounds in engine bay and as for play in shifter, look up on you-tube that issue and you will see the bolts that hold that assembly in place are most likely loose and how to fix it. Now you say you checked the battery terminals, but have you chosen to look at the solenoid on the Passenger fender for corrosion as our trucks gain in age the wiring within the coverings on them will not allow you to see broken wires or wiring not capable of carrying the power they once did. Plus clean the wires directly on your starter as corrosion is a big factor there in voltage drop.

Found the issue, the shift bars wires that run to the overdrive button pinched and shorted everything. So $75 later after replacing the shift rod and 1 blown fuse im running all good again. Thank you all for your input.

You might still check why your batteries are not holding 12.6v average.

12.0v suggests a problem in the system.
