In the 7.3 forum, we're always doing upgrades; up pipes, fuel tank mods, fuel lift pumps, rebuilding fuel bowl, etc. But nothing like that is ever addressed on upgrades/mods for the 6.7. Aren't these things needed for the 6.7? Are the up pipes ok? Is no upgraded lift pump needed? Etc.????

Well, initially, the 7.3l was like 200-250hp and Ford's first attempt at turbo engine in the pickups. In the last 22 years, Ford has made numerous changes from the 7.3 to the 6.7 to where the 6.7 now has output over 400hp and torque exceeding 800fl/lp. The 6.7 was a Ford design, not an adaptation of another company's engine as was the 7.3 Within the constraints of the EPA, appears Ford has done a damn fine job of building a diesel Super Duty that doesn't need the upgrades the 7.3 loved.

Could some parts be made differently and increase the numbers? Sure, but Ford didn't build just one or 100 trucks like an individual buyer but designed the trucks for 100,000's and for the last 7 years. For the average owner, 400 plus hp and over 800 ft/lb of torque is more than enough.

With the electronics and EPA, you can create more havoc improving the 6.7 than you want to deal with trying to solve them. Does an increase of 50 or 100 hp and similar torque values justify the cost and lose of warranty coverage? Do you need this increase to make a run to the local grocery store? Probably not, but to some, they want the "old school" mods thinking it looks good and makes them king of the hill. Can you make the truck better than Ford, sometimes but rarely does it happen.

Just my $.02. I had rather spend money on other goodies than re-engineering something that is pretty damn good from the factory.

Thanks again, lr; seems like your always available for good input.

Good morning, Nick; Good to hear from you. I've made the mistake of ordering a fifth wheel trailer that's going to max out the payload and gcwr of the truck. I know that I can't change gcwr, but I'm going to change fluids and pans/diff covers for more volume and heat dissipation. That should help a little.

Larrgh always has good information. However, as good and powerful as the 6.7 is, it was put together with parts from the lowest bidder, and under the auspices of EPA and other government agency interference. That's why we mod.

My 6.7 is bone stock with no mods, tuners or deletes. When I bought this truck I decided that I was more interested in warranty & longevity than increased performance. Anyway, I think I've pulled our 16,400 pound 5th wheel over every mountain pass in the western US & I don't think I've had my foot to the floor yet. Oh, down the road after warranty has expired & if I have some mechanical problem that requires getting into the engine, I may think about mods or deletes, but that's a long way down the road if ever.
I did add a tuner, gauges & cat back exhaust to my old '05 (see sig). I liked the firmer shifts & being able to see the EGT, but looking back, I'm not sure that I would mod that truck again either. 'Just my opinion.
