Hey guys whats going on. I have a service truck at work and we cant figure out whats wrong with it, we changed the fuel pump and checked the fuel cut off solenoid everythings working, the weird thing is that you can sit there and crank it until the batteries die but if you roll back and pop start it boom shell fire up and run all day no problem, we also changed glow plugs and glow plug controller, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Must be a manual trans to POP start it. POP starting, the engine rolls over a lot faster than with a starter. Sounds like you either have bad battery connections to the starter or the starter is bad. Ist off, clean all the battery terminals and cable connection, the Neg ground wire from battery to engine connection. These engines have to roll over about 150 to 200 RM to generate enough compression heat to fire off the fuel, also try cycling the GP's 3 - 4 times, if it starts then, that probably indicates the engine is not turning over fast enough.

If you're saying that the first time starting it has trouble, then starts fine all day, then you mght have a lift pump leaking back into the tank. Just because it is new, doesn't mean it is good. Try unhooking the filter supply line at the filter, then see if there is still a problem. If there is, then there is a leak in the return lines somewhere. They'll need checked all the way back to the tank. While you're under there you might as well check the supply lines too.
