I just got home from a 900 mile trip. Atlanta, GA - Greenville, MS

Left on a full tank and drove 209 miles stopped in Tuscaloosa, AL and put in 10 gallons MPG was 19.3/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif. Then drove to Greenville, MS and spent the day there (working) Drove back to Tuscaloosa 500+- miles and put in another 27 gallons MPG was 18.5.

I just got this truck last friday night so I was excited to go in this trip. I thought the MPG was pretty good for having only 3000 miles on the odometer.

Is this hand calculated or overhead. I still find it hard that some of you guys are getting this kind of MPG. I would be happy if I got 80% of that.

I get about 19 on the highway (flat and unloaded)

I usually drive about 70 to 73 mph.

All hand calculated.

City, about 13 or 14 (depends on idling times)

A 6.0 mated to a 6 speed is the perfect match for both power and mileage. It is all in your right foot. I regularly get over 20 except when I am enjoying the 14 mpg trips into " going like smoke in the wind " show off trips. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

I get about 17.5 when empty and taking it easy. Hauling the 5er drops it to about 10.4, but this is with the auto trans. I'm betting the sticks get a mpg or so higher. I've used the overhead and did the math by hand and it's fairly accurate; off only a half-mpg at most.

I've just turned over 8500 miles on this truck so I'm hoping it gets better by next year. I normally put only about 7500/year on a truck so it may take a couple years to get to the break-in period.

This was hand calculated, and I was using the cruise most of the time too. On I-20 speed average was 72-75 mph and on Hwy 82 across MS average speed was 65-67.

My F350 DRW has 1200 miles on it. I'm getting 13.6 mixed highway/city (hand calculated--readout showed 14.4). I made a trip yesterday that was mostly highway and the readout showed 16.6.

Those figures sound about right to me. The truck in my sig is coming up on 10,000 miles and my last tank got 17.3 mpg hand calculated. Most of my driving is about 50%-50% mixed highway & city because I commute to work with this truck. It is the city miles that kill the mileage on these trucks. I'll bet I would do much better if I ran a whole tank empty & unloaded with all highway miles.

2005 miles 104.7 gal = 19.14

Jacksonville,Tx- Natchez, Ms,-Macon, Ga -Nashville, Tn -Jackson, Ms(by way of Natchez Trace Pky), -Jacksonville Tx.

400 + miles of Natchez Trace at 55mph helped, but best leg was first was not in hurry so stayed below 60 almost 22mpg Jacksonville-Natchez by way of Monroe, La.

Slow down milage goes way up, hit throttle,(dump valve) and down it goes.

no doubt.

I get a wild hair sometimes and punch it. I watch the mpg go down just from a few hard accels.

This thing can really burn some fuel, if you drive it hard.

best mpg I have gotten was 21.6 hand calculated on a 260 mile trip. The dash gauge showed 21.5. That was unloaded doing 70 in the desert at night and AC was rarely needed.

Last weekend I towed the sea-doos (~1800 lbs) doing 75+ and got 17.0

Looking forward to see how it does this coming weekend towing 7000 up a very steep hill.

6.0 autamatic

I was a bit envious of those here who were getting 16-17mpg when I was getting about 13.5mpg. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/vomit.gif I knew it was early to know what I would be getting after break in. So I waited patiently. I now have a little over 5000 miles. I had about 2.2K when I went from So.Cal. to Oregon to pick up our new truck camper. First tank I got 18.92 MPG /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif(all mpg is hand calc). Second tank 16.59MPG. So now I was seeing this beast giving me some love and there was this big smile on my face. I did use cruse control and I kept it at about 2K rpm which is about 65MPH.
After I put the TC on (it weighs about 4000 lbs) the mileage droped to 12.5 MPG. This is going up and down mountains and on winding 2 lane country roads. Worst was 11.5MPG several were 12.5MPG. I am to say the least VERY HAPPY with this fuel mileage. I feel that there will still be some more improvement as it is not yet fully broken in.

As a side note THIS TRUCK IS A BEAST! About 1/2 of the time when going up a fairly steep grade it never even down shifts. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif This is with that 4000lb camper. I see no need for a power chip as there is more than enough power for my needs. I hope it continues to run like this cause I'm so stoked with this truck.

I have a freind who traded his Toyota Sequioa in for a 4runner to try to get some better MPG's. He really saw no improvement with the V-6 so he traded up to a V-8. He is getting about 15MPG. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/phoney.gif It weighs about 3000lbs less than my CC dually and is getting worse MPG. He is to say the least a bit pissed /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif at my MPG.

My experience is that 19-20+ at 75 mph is about right. I also don't believe the engine is "broken in" until 20,000 miles under normal use. For those who tow a lot it is probably less, but nothing short of 10,000 regardless of how you use the truck.

I towed my 10,000 trailer through the Adirondacks (hills) and got between 12 to 13 mpg. Unloaded highway I get about 18 to 19 mpg and city beween 15 and 16 mpg. My truck still has under 2000 miles and I hope to see some improvement down the road. I sure did with my 7.3 after about 15,000 miles on the clock.

Best of luck to you!

Glad to hear some of you talking about your gas milage getting better over time. I have ran only two tanks and one was 14.5 mpg and the other was 13.3. Mostly city driving.

Also, I filled up my truck today and it had a lot of foam at the top. It would die down and I kept trying to get it into the filler neck. I gave up after about ten times. Is alot of foam at the top normal?

Homepukes,

To keep the foam down on fill up you need to "Harpoon" your tank. Do a search here and you will learn how to do it. Basically, you run most of the fuel out of the tank, drop the tank from under the truck, go in through the top where the fuel gauge float is located and cut off most of the vent tube that sticks down into the tank. That will allow you to more easily fill up to the neck without the pump shutting off so much.

I just got a 2006 F350 and drove it 1000 miles home from a dealer and on one tank that was strictly highway doing about 75 i got 19.1 mpg. Overall I probablly average in between 16 and 17 mpg. I was suprised for the truck being that new. I did the calcs by hand although the calculated ones on the dash were pretty accurate as well as the distance to empty after about two full tanks.

I can get 19 mpg too. Calculate mileage and multiply the result x 2.
Wait....I still can't get it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Both my 6.0's could easily break 19mpg on flat ground at 70mph unloaded.

Maybe some people have bad sensors or something?

my 04 was flashed in March.
My april/05 built 05 has never been flashed.
I did notice a drop in mpg when my ebps was bad.
