Looking at a 94 f250,owner says the tranny was just rebuild..but must be manually shifted, wont shift on its own...
He claims its an electronic modular that needs to be adjusted?? Does this sound normal, or should I steer clear of this??

Are you looking to buy a Powerstroke specifically? The 94 PSD's only came with a 5-speed, so that one may be an IDI or an IDI Turbo. The 8th digit of the VIN should be an "F" for a PSD. If it was just rebuilt why didn't the shop that did the work adjust it? Cheers!

There is no such thing as an electronic modulator.

Most likely the transmission and/or the transmission controller are not getting power. The trans will only shift manually in that case. There is a power relay that powers the transmission. I don't remember exactly where it is, but it's somewhere under the hood. Someone else will know.
