:surpriseut in a new key switch a few months ago. Yesterday the truck would not shut off the key just keeps turning. Should a screw driver turn the switch when the lock is out? It doesn't turn. Do you think it's the actuator that has gone bad? Appreciate your input.

Sounds more like the plastic connecting piece.

The plastic gear doesn't appear to be broken. When the key is in it freely turns backwards.

If the actuator rod is broke would it still start?

Mine did. Would start, but wouldn't turn off.
Pull the column trim and investigate.
