First off I would like to let everyone know I am a newbie when it comes to diesel engines, but I am very interested to learn and work on my own and hopefully others in the near future. Last week I purchased my first diesel truck which is a 95 International rollback with the 7.3L engine. Overall the truck runs and drivers great and seems to have only some minor issues that should be easy to fix, but I am having an issue with the truck firing on its own during a cold start.

So far I have replaced the glow plug solenoid and barometric pressure sensor, but this has not solved any of my problems. The truck fires right up with just a small squirt of ether, but without it will just continue to turn over. Once it has been running for 10min+ the truck will fire without the ether every time so this is what has me a little confused. Even if the truck has been sitting for 3-4 hours it still starts with no problems at all since it's still warm I suppose?

Current codes:
152: Barometric Press Low "Sensor just replaced with Duralast PowerStroke Sensor"
541: IDM not detected by ECM "Any way to test these"?
325: Power reduced, matched cooling performance
622: Engine using field default rating

Hope someone can help and thank you for any positive input!

Your truck engine is the same as the powerstroke. Very minor differences.

Sounds like a uvch problem. Replace glowplugs while you're at it.

Sounds like the starter is not turning the engine over fast enough. A hot/warm engine helps to turn over faster, a little spritz of ether lowers the combustion heat factor.

You can search the 7.3 99 and up for cold starts.
