It is not a wastegate (our trucks do not have a wastegate from the factory), it is an exhaust backpressure valve that closes off to help the engine warm up faster. When closed it actually cuts back on power, maybe there was an issue with how it worked or the previous owner just did not want it there. Many folks have wired it open, many have also pulled it out and filled the holes left in the housing. It should not be an issue.

Hi,

I have a 1996 F-250 with the same problem and don't know which way to wire open. Could someone please post a picture of this showing the direction it should be wired?

If I understand this correctly, if you are facing the front-end of your vehicle with the hood open, I think the position to the right going towards the turbo itself is open and a closed position is to the left towards the down pipe. I'm having the same problem and please help!!!
