While traveling in hot weather my air conditioning starts blowing out my window defrosters. It has happened while towing on a long steep grade at freeway speed or when I'm just putting up and down mountain roads in 1st or 2nd gear. When it happens on the freeway I do hear the engine fan kick on. It's never engaged the fan in the mountains at low speed. All guauges read normal. Dealer said they couldn't find the problem.

Also, I forgot to mention that no matter which mode I select (vents, defrost, floor) it still only blows out the defroster. I can change the fan speed or turn it off. When the air blows out the defroster it is cold A/C air.

Thanks Shelby

Im hijacking again here /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif sorry firetruckin.

a quick look under the dash and behind the glove box-things looked ok.

The compressor seems to work, and the plumbing under the hood gets real cold-

Where is the pump? Right side fender?

What about the solenoid/ plunger thingy just forward of the glove box?
It has vac lines, and a plunger. This doesnt seem to be actuating when I change condition of the A/C - heater. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Thanks again Shelby and firetruckin /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif

Hi!
Ive got the same problem, heat and AC blow out the defrost vents. I am hearing a clicking sound under the hood when the AC/heat/vent knob is turned. I am waiting for someone to get home to turn the knob while I listen to see where it is coming from. I bet where the noise is coming from is the problem. There is also a fuse, mine is fine but you may want to check yours.
Where is the vacuum pump???

Fixed mine.. Checking some other threads it was suggested that the auto locking hubs work off vacuum and the hoses are prone to leaking. Checked mine and the passenger side was cracked right at the fitting where it goes into the hub. Problem solved.
I love this site..

I think what you are seeing is the door for recirculation it will move when you go from max ac to reg ac. Pull vacuum lines and see if you have vacuum at the pump and start back tracking from there.
