My A/C has intermittently cut out over the past year, and it finally did it while I could check for the discontinuity. It appears to be what Ford calls the "A/C pressure cut-off switch", which is located in the compressor discharge line, on the back of the compressor. Does anyone know if there is a Schrader-type valve underneath it, to keep the refrigerant from escaping when changing the switch? The factory service manual mentions a Schrader valve under the A/C cycling switch, but no such mention when they describe the A/C pressure cut-off switch.

Also, does anyone have the part number for this switch handy?

Thanks and regards,

Thanks for the info. Powerstrokeshop.com had the part (F5TZ19D594AA). Now I just have to think of what other parts I need to help offset the shipping cost.

Mine still didn't work when I wiggled the connector. The switch resistance was jumping around from 9 ohms to 50+ ohms. That will be a bummer if I need to discharge the refrigerant to change it. Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks,
Michael

Michael,

When I changed this switch in my truck there was a Schrader type valve underneath the cut-off switch, so you don't have to discharge the system. Also, if you need the pigtail for the switch I believe it's Motorcraft WPT-169, and it contains everything you'll need except rosin-core solder.

Hope it helps,
K.N.

The connector, likewise my experience. Stabilized the wires entering the connector with clear silicone sealant. Still periodically have to clean the connector with electronic spray cleaner and then apply electronic lube. No problems otherwise with A/C.

yes there is a shrader under the fitting...when you start to loosen it you will get some hissing...but don't fret just unscrew all the way and you'll be fine!! goodluck

Does anyone who changed this switch remember if it had an o-ring seal? My new one did not come with an o-ring, but there was one under the old switch. Unfortunately, my schrader valve was leaking severely, and trying to install the new switch over the old o-ring (with pressure pushing it out) ended up cutting the o-ring in half. My switch came in a previously-opened bag, so someone may have taken the dang o-ring out of it.

If this o-ring is NOT included with the switch, does anyone know what the part number for the o-ring is?

Looks like I'll be buying some R-134a tomorrow...

Regards,
Michael
