I am having two problems I am hoping someone can help me solve.

1 - the a/c controller wants to default to floor and defrost when a/c is in auto mode. I can push the direction selector button and it will switch to the vents or other selections properly. The recirc button also works properly. The 4wd engages fine and no apparent vacuum issues. When I push the auto button it goes from the vents back to the floor/defrost w/ a little vent. (it usually does this in the winter - starts in floor/defrost and as it warms up will move to vents as well, never summer a/c).

2 - the a/c blows very cold, then cool, then cold, then cool. There isn't a time/speed/distance pattern. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes not. It is doing this in auto and manual mode, as well as all selection or temp settings.

Thx for the help.

Update. My truck is at the dealer. They believe the problem is three air director veins. Everything else tested as working properly.

Cost... $1k. :ack:

Why? They have to remove the dash to get to them...

Problem 2 is, well... partially solved.

They ran the tests again, purged and refilled/charged the system, and couldn't find anything wrong.

It seems to be blowing colder air, however it still intermittently goes from very cold to cool to very cold.

Now I wait to see if it gets better or worse.

Following your thread it sounds a lot like what I get (mine might be a little worse). I get cold air first then just when I think it's going to get really cold it warms up a little. I've been back to the dealer so many times I'm done fussing with it. I just put the windows down when I get in and wait till the interioe cools down then put the A/C on and roll up the windows.

Wont need A/C around here for a long time now. LOL

StanMI, there has to be more with a similar problem... I live in Texas where we enjoyed our hottest year on record, and the problem didn't start until the end of summer. If I ever figure it out, I will post up the solution.

Good luck! I hope this doesn't mean the heater will do the same over the winter.
