so yesterday morning i was sitting at a stop like and my truck quit just like i turned the key off. i tried cranking it but it would not restart. the temperature was in the single digits so i added some diesel 911 to my fuel filter with no change. tried starting fluid ( with glow plugs turned off ) that was no help. after all this cranking i checked my high pressure oil reservoir and found it low so i refilled it but still would not start. got it towed to our shop and hooked up a gauge to the high pressure oil rail and that was reading fine. hooked up a fuel gauge and at first it read kinda low but as i cranked it more it gradually came up to about 60 or 70 psi. then i noticed smoke coming out the tail pipe so i turned my glow plugs back on and then it fired right up and have not had a problem since. i kinda wanna think that maybe my cam sensor was acting up but not real sure. i changed it out today and drove a short distance with no problems. not the first time this year it's been that cold and never had a problem with fuel yet. last time my cam sensor went bad was a couple years ago but it acted the same way in that went to start my truck and it wouldn't fire, it finally did and then shut-off again after driving about 10 foot or so. did this two or three times till i finally got it driven into shop. replaced it and didn't have a problem for three or four years till yesterday. both yesterday and the previous time i had a tachometer reading while cranking with no start. thank-you in advance for any help.

Could be the cam sensor wiring harness. Check it for breaks in wire and corrosion on terminal. These sensors can go bad right outta the blue so it could be the (new sensor) bad.

Cam sensor.
Same happened to me a couple times last summer. Stopped right when I was crossing a street. Luckily, it started right up.
It stopped a couple times like that, intermittently. Thought it could be the filter plugging up from running bad biodiesel. Not to be. Replaced thge cam sensor (10 minutes) and all has been good since.
