I just had a thought, perhaps it's all wrong, but I'm not a computer whiz so I don't know.
- Can a person use his computer and via the internet, connect to another computer hooked up to a truck and run AE, when the actual computer that's hooked up doesn't have it? I understand that they would still need the cord, but could it be done?

Yes, but to run AE on the remote to access the truck on the server? It may be useful for someone in the middle of nowhere who doesn't have the $ for AE. A cord could be sent and AE run from someone else willing to help diagnose it.

The AE software can be installed on as many computers ad you like. So sending them the cord? You might as well send them the software too.

Yes, it can be installed on as many computers as you want, but the activation code changes for each computer, as I understand it anyhow. Besides, that's not very fair to AE. It's not something I would be willing to do.

The activation code is tied to the cable you purchased from them. That way you can keep the cable and software and still use it if you buy a new computer. It's fair to AE since they allow it. The down side is if you send that cable off and don't get it back, you get to buy it all over again.

I had a hard drive crash several years ago. I had AE for awhile, and the updates had run out already. I tried re-loading the program with the original activation code and it was denied. It took a few e-mails to AE to get a new activation code, but they did it. I don't know if it was because I didn't want to pay subscription fees or not.

When my hard drive crashed, I didn't have any trouble getting a new code. I guess they just like me better.

AE didn't deny me, my dang computer did:icon_wink: It did take 2 e-mails to get a new code, so maybe they do like you better. Still, not a bad bunch of guys down there. They could have told me to pound salt

From the sound of the last few posts, AE is keyed to the computer, not the cord. Otherwise you wouldn't need a new code for a reinstall, correct?

Can anyone confirm?
