Ordered my gauges and exhaust (should be here this week). I need to get some paint to match the interior. I know it needs to be for plastic. Has anyone found some locally that is a close match. If so, what kind and where did you find it?

Thank you,

Chris

I got some mixed up at a local automotive paint store. They had the codes for the interior colors and went by that.

Get ready to choke. $41/pint /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Or you could order a spray can from one of the sponsors. I think DI has them. Have to be shipped ground (hazardous), so would have taken a month to get here in Alaska, and maybe cost as much as the pint I have. I think I could paint 6-8 more pillars.

I went to my local auto store (that mixes paint) and they had a color that matched the lighter color of the two interior colors in my truck (tan and darker brown). I changed both pillars from being darker brown to the tan. You would never know they were the darker color before. Cost: 12.00 + 8.00 for the plastic primer.

One of the sponsors here sells the Ford paint (spray can). I don't remember which one, but I'm sure someone here can point you in the right direction.

Look on the sticker in the drivers side door jamb area. There is a section labeled "INT TR" (interior trim). Call or e-mail me with that code and I'll tell you exactly what paint color you have.

Primer is not a necessity, but it can make paint coverage easier in you are spraying a light color.

I recommend scuffing the pillar with a scotchbrite pad or similar and then cleaning it THOROUGHLY to remove any remaining release agent, wax, finger print oils, etc. I handle the pillars we paint wearing gloves once I start the cleaning process.

Alcohol at the very least, but I prefer the Plastic/Leather Prep from SEM. Most automotive paint stores should have this product.

Interior Paint is available from your local dealer. Al they need is your interior paint code. That is where we get ours. A plastic primer is essential for longtivity of the paint adhering to the plastic. In addition Primer can fill any defects, and make the final paint process so much easier as well as allow you to use less paint.

Cleaning and allowing the primer to cure is also important. I use static free cloth that is used in automotive paint shopws to remove any dirt on the pods before priming. I also do light coats of paint at least 4 for a final factory looking touch.

Do not attempt to paint is excessive heat, cold or hummid time. Its just makes it harder to get a proper finish.

Maybe I need to call your local dealer.

Mine tells me he cannot get it.

I will try a couple other close dealers and see if I get a different answer.

Thanks,

They can order it, it has a Ford part number. Send me an IM with your truck year and color and I will send you the Ford Part numbers.

Although, it may be faster to get it from the Sponsors that are selling it here, as they keep them in stock.

Amen to that. I called the local dealership and the one in the city where all parts are shipped and dispersed. They were clueless. That is why I just ordered from Dennis @ ITP.

The parts guys are not clueless. They are LAZY!!!! If they have half a brain its right on the computer in front of them. I worked in the local Ford dealer parts department long enough to know I did not want to spend the rest of my life on the front counter as a parts man. Been there done that! Recently enough that I sold parts for the truck I am driving. Worked in the service department back in the middle 70s, not me either. Here is the catch to buying Ford paint or brake fluid or chrome cleaner or ..... The dealer has to buy it by the case, 6 or 12 to a case. If you are willing to buy the case they will order it but they dont want to sell you 1 and stock 5 or 11 that may never leave the shelf.
