You guy's are the first to see an exclusive sneak peek at Superchips next generation tuning product the VIVID that’s being shown for the first time at SEMA this week. The VIVID is an android based product that offers a wide variety of apps and options. Look for its release around February of 2011.

For those who already own an android based device Superchips will be offering the “AVID” a Bluetooth Dongle that provides the link between those Android based products and the Superchips VIVID tuning app.

Plans are to release AVID in Summer 2011.

Here is a beta shot of the VIVID tuning device with the new main screen menu shown. With it being a beta rendering more than likely it will be somewhat different from the main launch menu.

The Archos unit employs an HD video camera and plays back HD video on the 720p screen and as you can see from the icons has WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. The WiFi is 802.11 b/g/n.

For those interested in GPS apps, the device will work with many of the GPS antennas commonly found on sites such as Amazon.com. Most GPS app providers such as Google and Navigon offer just a one time fee to get the app installed to your device. Quite a few of the antennas on Amazon.com run at a 10 Hz refresh rate which is much better than many of the smart phones on the market which run at a refresh rate of 1 Hz.

More info to come as I get it.

Here is an updated picture of the new device and the ‘steering wheel’ menu. The tuning experience in the VIVID is like nothing else the industry has seen. It really takes advantage of the Android operating system and the power of the Archos tablet. As you can see there are five icons shown, but those can be rotated with a touch of the screen to reveal different vehicle performance apps and everyday use apps such as playing music, videos or games. From the Android menus you can also surf the web, check email and do posts to social media sites or whatever else you install from one of the many Android app sites.

VIVID does everything with the vehicle using a high-speed Bluetooth connection providing a seamless experience for tuning, gauges and the data acquisition app. The gauges will be available as analog and digital in preset layouts. Eventually, we would like to make it so you can create your own layouts, but that is further down the road. The boss isn’t letting me discuss or show the data acquisition in the VIVID because our competitors always look to us for innovation and design cues so they can try to stay relevant so we are staying quiet on that one until closer to launch. I got my first demo of the app Monday and it is awesome!

More as I am allowed to put it out including pictures of some of the other apps and screens.

I have the latest some shots of the product we showcased at the big Jeep event in Moab Utah last week.
Pictured in order are the two application screens. The steering wheel version allows you to thumb through the options on the wheel. The second screen shows a general listing of the features. (More will be present upon release of the product):

DAQ is next showing you the analog gauge options. You will be able to push on any one of the gauges to select the sensor you want projected as well as have the ability to customize the image or graphic in the gauge background:

Next is the Jeep specific Inclinometer:

And the 720p HD quality video camera + still image camera features:

What you are looking at is strictly demo software and so some of the features are not present but you get the gist of the product and what it will look like once complete but as you can see we are progressing pretty well.

No unlocks for the initial release. I will have to see what management has in store for the second phase as I am unsure at this point what they have planned.

I will definitely update everyoner once I hear more.

I'm not sure if the Archos ships locked or unlocked, never had one...

However, it really won't make much of a difference if they are locked or not. Someone who will want to unlock them will do so in less than 2 minutes (5 if adb needs to be employed).

I like the path you guys are taking with running the device on Android. It opens up a lot of possibilities for end users with Android software development skills, as they can create their own apps for it.

How did you guys get the device to support an external camera for rear-view? Or, is the last picture just an image showing the camera that comes with the tablet?

My bad on the unlock info. I misunderstood the question being a person who doesn't own or use a Droid based product currently.

I will inquire with the engineering team and get back to this thread when i find out.

The camera is built into the device itself and was just linked to the software. We are looking into backup cameras as well.

May want to ask the software team. They will likely know better since they're writing the proprietary SCT application(s) for the device. The engineering team at Archos may not get back to you anytime soon.

Either way, I was merely curious.

Here are the latest alpha testing screen shots of the VIVID.

The VIVID software offers the same best in class tuning levels and features as offered in the Flashpaq and Cortex programmers.

There is a separate one button return to stock feature so you can quickly get back to stock for service visits or any other reason you desire to be in stock trim.

You will get 2 DAQ features. The first one offers real time sensor data in a bar graph form. The bar graph data offers up to 4 icons on the left of the screen. The first icon offers 0-30 mph, 0-60 mph, 1/8th mile, 1/4 mile and 1 mile data with storage to save the runs.

The next two icons cover groupings of the most popular engine sensors.

The fourth icon offers data on vehicle speed, mph, etc....

Each of these icons can be selected at random as often as the user wants.
The second DAQ option is an application that offers real time sensor data in an analog gauge format providing a total of 5 gauges on the screen.

Touching an individual gauge pulls up a list of features that allow you to customize a number of options including how the face looks and what specific sensor you would like to view and record.

There is a mileage monitor called the Driving Coach that details your particular mileage gains or losses in real time helping those interested in improving their mileage actually see the results as they change their driving habits.

A Maintenance Manager allows you the ability to program reminders in the application such as an oil change so you don’t forget.

Additional to the vehicle specific features a few Droid options are conveniently linked into the VIVID software for easy access. Some of those features are a Still/Video camera

Movie player

And music player that can play music in the background while you tune.

Here is the latest news:

Estimated ship dates for the VIVID now called VIVID PAQ is 8/31. Currently we are finalizing alpha testing on the product as well as getting the user’s manual and box graphic's this week or next.

The AVID now called the VIVID LINQ has no release data at the moment. I would assume it would be released shortly after provided we don't have issues related to different Android products/phones.
