I've had my X for going on two years. I think I've about had it trying to figure out what is wrong with this truck. It has tons of upgrades and feels more sluggish than stock - pulling a 3,000lb trailer it has to be hammered to get up to speed and slows down going up the slightest hills. Pulling the trailer it gets about 9-10 MPG. It has:

Banks Six Gun
Banks 100 Hp Chip
Banks Trans Command Module
Cold Air Intake
Wicked Wheel
4" Downpipe and Banks Full Exhaust
Banks Technicooler

I've Checked / Fixed
For leaks on the charge side with a boost pressure tester
Changed Fuel Filter
Checked fuel pressure / changed fuel pump
Pulled fuel tank / cleaned pick up screens
Had transmission rebuilt
Replaced Up Pipes with international bellowed pipes
Installed 203 degree thermostat
New batterys / cleaned terminals
AIH Mod
EBPV Delete

It has 203k, starts right up year round, no lift, 4x4, stock tires, 7.3L. If I can't figure out something that makes a drastic improvement someone else can be the new owner...

Have you checked some of the sensors to make sure they are not biased? EOT, IAT, EBP, MAP?

Banks 100 Hp Chip
Banks Trans Command Module
My guess is that your tune is all screwed up because you are trying to use a tune from the Six Gun and the tune on the chip at the same time. They probably conflict - unless Banks has specifically advised you that you can stack the chip and the Six Gun tunes. Plus Banks is known for expensive but safe tunes, and not for powerful tunes.

So at first I would remove the chip and then use the Six Gun to get the tune back to stock. Then drive the truck (including towing) with the stock tune to see how it does stock.

Then install the chip but without the Six Gun and see how it does.

If that's not good enough, then remove the chip and use the Six Gun to install the hottest Six Gun tune and see how it does.

If that's still not good enough, then get the tune back to stock with the Six Gun, and store both the chip and the Six Gun in a cool dark corner of the barn.

Then call Jody at
Tuning - Ford Powerstroke 7.3L
and ask him if his standard tunes for your 7.3L will work right with the Trans Command. If not, get rid of the Trans Command too. (The DP-Tuner tunes include transmission controls).

Then order a multi-position chip and tune switcher from Jody. I would start with 4 tunes:

1. 80-Economy for unloaded cruising

2. 80-tow for towing that 3,000-pound trailer you mentioned. Or other trailers that gross up to about 6,000 pounds.

3. 100-performance for goofing off on Saturday night. Or maybe 120-Performance or 140-performance if you don't mind some black smoke.

4. Jody's recommendation for the best available stock tune. (You must have a stock tune quickly available in case you or your mechanic needs to diagnose the engine with a diagnostic scanner.)

Other tunes you can add now or later:

60-tow for trailers that weigh 6,000 to 10,000 pounds.

40-tow for heavy trailers over about 10,000 pounds that you need to drag over mountain passes.

If you don't have the Ford AIC (auxiliary idle controller), then add High idle 1,200 RPM for better HVAC performance to keep the puppydog comfortable while idling in the parking lot at the mall with ambient temps of hot 100° or cold 20° F.

Assuming there is nothing wrong with your X except tuning, and your have your exhaust brake turned completely off, then the DP-Tuner tunes will wake up your 7.3L and you'll love it.

And BTW, 444-4D was being facetious, even though he forgot to add the winkie. ;)

I have not checked the sensors, no codes are coming up. What is the procedure to make sure they are not biased?
