So been looking for an F250. Was pretty bent on trying to get an 05 because they did some restyling and upgrading over the 04 and older. If I go much newer that 05 I start getting out of my price range. so trying to find an 05 specifically with all the options I want at the price I want is proving to be difficult. Anyone think its overly worth it to keep trying for an 05? Here is a killer 6.0 turbo diesel 2004 for sale that I wonder if I should consider. But I like refinements. So should I try and go for 05 or should I consider this 04?

Personally, I would stay in a 2004. There was a design change inthe EGR cooler in 2004.5 that went in to 2005 and later models. The 2005 and later EGR coolers are more notorious for blowing that the 03 & 04's were. Not to say that makes them bulletproof, but that is my consideration.

That truck in your link is very nice looking, but I would be looking at the upgrades to the engine over anything else. You can do the cosmetic work at your leisure while engine and drive train issues can cost you right now.

The pic of the engine is useless. It's like when people are selling a boat and they take the cowling off the outboard to show you how clean it looks inside. I've never seen an faulty powerhead be visible from the exterior.

What they should have is a printout of the gauge readings under heavy load, the EOT vs the ECT, the boost, the EGT... those would be worth a lot more than pictures of shiny wheels and upgraded radios.

There are no gauges in those pictures (nothing but standard idiot gauges) so unless the guy was running a tuner with gauges, he's likely never kept up with the health of the truck. I would be very wary of any diesel who's owner spent more on looks than on performance.

Nice truck in the link. But if f you are going 4x4 Id look for an 05 - Its the first year of the coil spring front end ( better turning radius and smoother ride ) JMHO :ford:

Nice truck and those are good tires. I have those tires and have over 30,000 miles on them and they have atleast 3 times the tread left than the ones on that truck. Its an 04 with 05 emblems, just like mine!

Id get it, as long as the heads arent blown.

Nice looking truck. Make sure to check the truck over very well. Today being sunday go to there lot and check it out as you know they are closed.

Next goto Go ford at broadway and countyline rd on monday take the vin# and get a free oasis report and see what kinda warranty work was done to the truck this is a good way to tell if it has had a lot of problems.

Next make a appt with the service dept and have them do a complete used car inspection on the truck remember this you will have to pay for.
and also talk with the tech that did the inspection and see what he truly thinks of the truck.

Another thing to remember is alot of car being sold at the smaller non dealer lots are from out of state dealer auto auctions. Try to find out as much history you can now befor you buy ie carfax, oasis ect

Looking at the pics here is a few things i noticed L/F wheel missing lugnut and possible wheel stud. Brake pedal pad missing. tire are getting low on tread if you do go and look at it get the tire size and see what tires are going to cost you. also looks like you will need a alignment to fix the tire couping. 4wheel parts is about the only shop in town that will do alignment on a lifted truck with aftermarket wheels.

Thanks for the replies. Definitely thinking 05 is the way to go. This 04 I mentioned sucked. The turbo had issues, it wouldn't come out of park, the brake pedal was missing, the tires were too big and rubbed. I have a tahoe now with a 6" lift and 35's. This truck put mine to shame in the huge department. But I'm passing. But after this weekend of test driving a few different ones I'm in love with the turbo diesel engine. Now I'm just trying to find a needle in a haystack trying to stay in my price range. Around an 05 F250 crew cab, diesel, under 100k around $20k/21k total (with tax) that isn't a white work truck. Crazy how many there are of those. Thinking I might be in for a long search with what I want. And I have been checking oasis and carfax religously on each vehicle I've considered and passed on. Luckily this is a splurge purchase and not a gotta have it now purchase.
