Alright good folks! I have decided it's time for a chip(I'm quiet the horsepower junkie). I believe that if I'm going to go through with this, I'm going to get the Black Cloud Diesel 6 position flip chip. Good choice? Does anyone have any reccomendations as to what other upgrades are needed? I had exhaust done this week and have just ordered a 3 gauge set, and cai. I was hoping yall could point me in the direction as to what else is needed as I've tried the search function, but it isn't exactaly spot on. Well, thanks in advance for any help.

A 6 pos chip is overdoing it IMO. 4 pos should cover all needs: stock/50hp/80hp/100hp

Some like high idle and valet in addition to the above but if you don't need those a 6 pos chip would make no sense. But that's just my opinion.

Thank you for the reply, thank all of you. Well, the reason I was going to go for the 6 pos instead of the 4 is the price diffrence(20 dollars) and I could throw in the high idle and governed speed. Is there any adverse effects of having a 6 pos rather than a 4 or 3? Also, will my truck throw any codes with the added power? Will my milleage have any bearing(125k)? I wouldn't be throwing the big power setting on very often, mostly just the 80 for driving and the 50 for towing. Sorry for the barrage of questions, but I suck at the internet and I really suck at the search here, although I am coming around. Thanks again for all the replies and thanks for everyone taking the time to help out a diesel newbie.

I also bought a Jody Tipton 4 position chip and I am thrilled with it. I installed it quickly and the next day took my 29' trailer for a haul into the Sierra's. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gifThe tow position was great, my egt's, tranny temp and engine temp were great. I did throw a couple of codes, but everything still ran fine. You can see my thread on page 7, (right now) of this forum, "Can someone please help???" I am pretty new to this site to and don't quite know how to post a thread in my reply, sorry /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif Anyways, too soon for me to really see a difference in mileage, but it is awful hard to control my right foot/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I woould definately go with DP Tuner...There's my $.02

I have the same chip you are going to get a TS 6 pos from black cloud. In my opinion I'd skip the Fuel 7 (140 hp) it seems to me it is about the same as the 125 hp setting, except with more smoke. Also it shifts are insane, I feel like my tranny is just going to fall out of the truck, this may be a cause of my FTVB. Just my personal experience, I love everything else about my chip, jsut would skip the fuel 7 next tiem around.

Slow04Cobra the 4 pos chip from DP-Tuner actually is a 6 pos chip with 4 programs on it.

So if I was you I would get the 4 pos chip and if you later see the need for adding 2 more programs you can send it back to them and have 2 programs added.

Call this magic number and and discuss your needs: (828) 712-1405 and ask for Jody in case he doesn't answer himself.

You could have your chip before the end of this week!

TS has stopped making the 4 position chip about a month ago now, and I believe that he stopped selling the 4 posi chip before that. Nearly all the 6 posi chip is made by TS - DI, DP-Tuner, Dieselsite etc as was the case with the 4 posi.

I can tell you one thing, based on your stock situation, better get guages before going to some hot chip. Also, you will eventually need an ATS turbo housing and/or a Wicked Wheel or your turbo will be toast in no time. If I were you, I would do guages, intake, exhaust and THEN a chip. And as soon after as possible do the ATS/WW and THEN the tranny upgrades.

You can still purchase a 4 position chip or less chip, just depends on how much you want to spend, they just limit the programs on the chip to your desired number.

Yeah, but it's still a 6 posi chip. They differ in the fact that the 6 position has the switching mechanisim on the chip whereas the older 4 position chips relied on the switch itself as the switching mechanisim. I hope that's clear enough, I know it doesn't make alot of sense.
