HAVE A 96 E-150 C.W.WITH ABS 3 CHANNEL SYSTEM. ABS LIGHT COMES ON AND GOES
OFF BEFORE I START ENGINE. HOWEVER, AFTER DRIVING A FEW MILES THE ABS
LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON UNTIL I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS OR REPEATS ITSELF EVERYTIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN. HAS ANYONE
EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM WITH THEIR ABS? I HAVE REPLACED THE ROTORS
AND PADS AND OHMED THE SPEED SENSORS AND ALL THREE FALL WITHIN THE
LIMITS THAT WERE AVAILABLE FOR A 1995 E-150.
YOUR REPLIES ARE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

Hey, mine does the same thing. 96 e350. Never really looked into it. A lot has been discussed about it though. One thing to look for is a sensor that is directly on top of the rear end. Take it off, clean it or replace it. Also, a lot of guys are saying that the brake fluid has to be completely topped off, not just to the mark. You may want to try that. That's what a lot of guys have been talking about. Also found this on the web. Whether or not it pertains, I don't know. Don't know what they are talking about with their abbreviations. Maybe someone will chime in.

GROUND THE BROWN CONNECTOR TO GROUND AND THE ABS LIGHT FLASHES TO REVEAL THE TROUBLE CODE. COULDN'T GET IT TO FLASH THOUGH EVEN WITH
THE ABS LIGHT IN TROUBLE CODE. HE EVEN BOUGHT HIS SCANNER HOME BUT
COULDN'T GET ANY CODES TO DISPLAY. HE SAID HE NEEDED SOME OTHER
HARNESSES.... OBD1 SOUND FAMILIAR FOR 1996 C.W.?

Hey Fairlaner. I just had a problem with my van and posted on the general site. Drove it home from dinner with no problems and next day she wouldn't go out of 1st gear till I let off. Then banged into second. After getting her to shift to 2nd she was searching and the speedometer was going bananas. I was pointed in the direction of the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) from a couple of guys on the general site. I took the sensor off (breaking both plastic ears on the connector) and cleaned it. Put her back on and still the same symptoms. Went to Ford today and got a new sensor. Aparently that sensor not only monitors speed but also the ABS system. To make a long story short, I'm back on the road with everything working fine, shifting like before except for the friggen ABS light, still on. So I have to rule out the sensor at this point for the cause of the ABS light. The guy behind the counter told me that it would probably cure the ABS light. It didn't He had many in stock. $23 bucks and some change.
