Hello all,

Just sold my 03GMC Duramax and bought an 08 KR 250 CC.

Two problems....first my AC is not very cold. I have to keep the auto temp set at 68 or lower just to keep the cab confortable and on occasion at idle the system starts blowing warm air. I took the truck in and they recharged to unit but I'm still having the problem at idle.....any thoughts???

Second...the brake pedal has alot of travel to it compared to the GMC and other trucks I have owned. Once you really push it down the brakes are strong but it sure seems like its too much travel.....how does this compare to some of your trucks??

Thanks for any help and I look forward to the forum....I also hope this Ford turns out to be a good thing because right now I'm second guessing myself.

I have had the automatic temperature control on several of my F-250 trucks. I too ran into that "cooling" problem early on. When I brought it up to the service manager he explained it. Since it is automatic, and controls both heat and cooling, there is a point at which the unit "blends" the two to achieve the proper level. That happens at around the 68 degree area. I started keeping mine below that point and have not had a problem. Now, at idle you don't have the ram air effect across the condenser so you would not expect to have the same level of cooling that you would have at say 35 or 65. Ever notice a tech place a big fan in front of the radiator when troubleshooting certain cooling problems?

The heat generated by today's engines doesn't help matters where A/C cooling is concerned. I haven't gone out to count just where in the lineup my condenser is but I know full well it has a load of heat in front of it.

Oh well, I still love the 08!

Don't forget, the A/C compressor is inefficient at idle too.

Along with a fan in front of the veh as K80 states the engine speed is usually set to a higher RPM during A/C performance checks too.

Mine needed a new condenser as the R-134A had leaked out and you could see gunk around the fins. Other trucks from the same ship date had no or little R-134A when delivered. I watched the dealer recharged two other 2008 6.4l's that day.

Make sure they check the high side and low side pressure and that it's in spec. Idle will give you AC but not near the same as driving.

If you really need colder air when idling you can add the 1200 rpm wire to the upfitter switch.

"Recirculate is the coldest setting" it's ice cold and the coldest air I've seen to date. Don't use Auto mode. Set air to 60, and set the air to use just the vents in the dash. Also if you're not using recirculate and your fan is at high opening the rear window about 1 inch will give you increased blower speed.

This is why your 08 doesnt seem as cold. No offense to ford, but Chevy/GMC has the COLDEST ac i have ever experienced. I don't know how or why, but every suburban i ever rode in had me numb at the extremities, even in the back seat with 90+ degrees outside. The only ford i ever had that did that was a 1985 F-150....r12 probably.

I drive 9 miles home from work..88 today. Window open for the first mile. Never got below 80 degrees. Fan on full, recycle air, dash vent only. Not in automatic....For a 50K truck you would think you could get cool!

I agree with Rutcutter, this truck blows colder air than any truck I have had. Noticeable colder than my wife's Tahoe. Something wrong for there to be this much difference in the same basic trucks. It's only been in the low to mid 90's here, but with the climate control set on 70, my wife will close the vents. Hope it is doing this well in a year or two.

Just wanted to clarify the above. The cooling issue was not with this 08 but an 04. This 08 will freeze your butt off!!

OK here is the update:

Took the truck to the second dealer and they were very helpful. The service manager rode with me in a brand new KR250 that had not been pdi yet so we could compare. The new truck ran around 43 degrees with the ac on max(60) and recir. Even at idle the temp stayed between 45 and 50 depending on the compressor cutting on and off...of course fan speed slowed a little at idle but still the unit acted very different from my KR250. Mine never got below 50 degrees even at speed and at idle it stayed in the mid 50's to 60. Seems there is a sensor issue as my compressor is able to 45 for a moment but it lets the temp rise back to 60 too fast. When you first start the truck the temp stayed at 70 until we cycled the ac button on and off twice. So at least the truck acted like I described to them so maybe now a fix can be had.

The brake pedal is another problem.....the new KR250 had a firm short pedal to it whereas mine is very soft and requires several inches of travel before resistance is felt...hopefully this is just a brake bleed issue....

Ok,

No more glove box lights, fender liners, door lights, and now being stingy with the freon.

Well got the idle ac problem fixed but now at speed it warms up 10 degrees on its own. The entire ac/heat system suddenly shut off yesterday for no reason. That 03 GMC duramax is really missed.
