My AC on my '01 has quit again. First @14K mi. after only a year, warranty, evacuated system and recharged. Then two years later @ 30K mi., found it leaking between the halves on the compressor, replaced, evacuated and recharged, warranty. Now again @54K mi. I take it in tomorrow to see what is wrong this time. This is not funny anymore, especially since it is no longer warranty.

I just had to vent! UGH!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/vomit.gif

Re: AC Problems Again!! Anyone else had this problem?????

Scodemike,

Venting is good! Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Don't know if this is related but you never know ...

I have an '00 F250 PS (200,000 miles) that I bought last year in September. Air worked fine until a few days ago. It will blow cold for about 5 minutes and then start blowing warm (compressor shuts off). It's either a low charge or a bad a/c cycle switch as far as I can tell. My R-12 manifold gauges won't fit the R-134a system so I bought some adaptors off of eBay today so I can hook up the gauges and see what's going on. Called Ford dealer to check on price of a/c cycle switch - $16 and in stock. That's good! I was expecting $50. The switch is supposed to keep the evaporator from freezing up by cycling the compressor off when 'needed'.

Mine doesn't blow cold at all, no matter if it is going down the road, sitting or in the shade. I will find out today what the problem is. If it is the compressor I am going to call Ford and ask them to do something for me.

Re: AC Problems UPDATE!

I just picked the truck up and they said they evacuated the system and recharged it. They ran a dye test, but didn't find any leaks. So, if that is really the case, where is it going?

Dumb question for me to ask bro. but did "they" access the evaporator and look really close....? With the condensed moisture dripping off the evaporator it may be a challenge to find the red dye, the black light will find it much better but still not easy....hope you find the root cause of this..summer is ...well you know ....whew..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

Re: AC Problems UPDATE!

To be honest I don't know, but I have a plan. I am going to drive it for a month and then take it back and tell them to black light it again, the cooling isn't what it was. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I agree there is a root cause of the leaks, AC just doesn't lose a charge for no reason.
