Would this be a good idea, a bad idea, or simply feasible?

Get an OEM horn pad from a junkyard, put it on your steering wheel, jump the Brake sensor wire located on the back side of your under the hood fuse box and your done /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif.
Took me about 10 mins to convert mine.

Cost? I think I bought the horn pad for 20-30 bucks

HERE is the plug you need to put the jumper in. Mine has the jumper because the pressure switch on the master cylinder is bad. Yours wont have the switch but the plug will be plugged into a dummy receptacle between the fuse box and the firewall. The circuit will be hot when the truck is running so be sure you tape it up real good.

I worked on a truck once, was an XLT, been in a front drivers accident and the column was replaced with one from an XL, non cruise. he put his old horn pad on with the cruise stuff but it still didnt work, claimed the wiring wasn't in the column for the cruise stuff. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

I knew a wire had to be jumped, but didnt know which one, since the truck originaly had cruise shouldn't have had to jumper anything right?? guess I will have to go back and look at his third brake light see if it was burned out.
