Can you add the Home Link garage door opener feature to a truck that didn't come with it? If so, what parts do you need besides the visor, and what do you have to connect?
Thanks
In my 2004 and 2005 trucks all it was, was getting the visor and plugging it in to the existing wiring harness. VERY easy. I can't imagine it being anything different in the 2011's - but since I special ordered my truck I got homelink with it already. Do you have lighted visors? The main thing is that it needs power, the entire homelink system is contained within the visor... (at least it used to be)
Thanks Dak, I'll give my parts guy a call and see if they are still self contained. BTW I have the lighted visors. I find it funny that the dealer would order a Lariat Ultimate without Home Link, its got every other option except the headrest DVD but I think Ford stopped putting them in when mine was being built. I'd love to get rid of that bulky "clicker" opener that keeps flying off my dash and the Home Link visor would do that nicely. My wifes' Expediton has it and she likes the feature very much.

I read in a forum somewhere that it is a plug and play upgrade, you just have to order the visor. Can't confirm 100% but adding what Dak said about the 2005's I would think its more likely then not.
UPDATE: I just ordered the HomeLink visor for my truck from the dealer I bought it from. There is a difference between the CC visors and the standard cab and extended cabs so this part number may be different for those of you without a CrewCab. My interior is tan, there are also black and gray, only three colors available.
Part # for CrewCab tan interior is BC3Z-2504105-HA List is $256.48 I'm getting it for $205.18. According to the parts guy, its just a direct swap if you have the lighted visor which I do. It will be here next week and I'll let you all know if its as easy to do as it seems.
BTW thanks Dak for the offer on yours but according to the parts guy it wouldn't fit the new trucks.
Well from what you are saying, my parts guy screwed up, I'll call him tomorrow and see what is happening. Thanks for the correction guys. After all the time the guy spent looking for this, and even telling me there is a difference for crew cabs, he still missed this? GREAT.
OK, I got the new visor and installed it, which was harder than I thought. Two screws hold the visor on but the wiring connector was glued fast to the back of the headliner. I had to open the sunroof and unclip the velcor fastener and then force my hand in there and pull loose some foam that was holding the wiring with contact cement. After getting it free (and cutting my hand) I was able to unhook the wire and install the new one. NOW does anybody have instructions for programming the unit? The manual doesn't seem to mention it.

Tried those instructions numerous times already with no luck. My gate opener is the kind with a fixed code you set by dip switches, it works great with the Homelink in the wifes' 2002 Expedition. I'm going to dig up the directions for programming her car and try them on mine since the uints look identical.
BTW, I call Homelink tech support and they told me that this IS NOT one of their units due to its having 3 LEDs. She said call Ford which I did and they tell me it IS Homelink. I hate when a company tells you something as fact when you know it to be BS. Homelink needs to train its people better.
UPDATE: I called my Ford parts guy and he spent about a half hour researching this and found a manual that details the procedure, these visors are NOT Homelink, they are Car-2-U systems. He faxed me about 6 pages of instructions (very blury but I managed). They worked!
For all those doing this upgrade, call your dealer and get the proper procedure.

I have found that the brand Ford uses "Car2U". I much perfer the Homelink system. The Homelink brand can clone your existing remote signal, the Car2U can't. The Car2u can only replicate dip swithes in older units or it will work with the newer revolving codes. My problem is I use a X10 home automation system to open my gate and it does various other things. The Car2u will not work for my application. All of the homelinks I have had in the past worked flawlessly. I am very disappointed. I called tech support at Car2u and there where no help. They acted is if I am the only one that has asked this question before. I am still stuck with a remote on the visor.
I just converted my visor to the old style home link. I could not believe I spent 60k and no garage door opener, and I own a garage door company!!! I took some pictures of the install if anyone would like me to post them. Pretty easy job about three hours and 25 bucks. I got a home link module on eBay for under 20.00.
Another alternative is homelink in the mirror - i put one of these Gentex mirrors in my '06 and worked great and added outside temp that i didn't have since i don't have climate control. Basically OEM quality and look. They have one with just about any mix of options (compass, temp, homelink, even hookup for the factory camera in the mirror - but of course that one was considerably more than the 120 bucks i had paid on ebay!). Fatbud89, can you add done photos and delete to your conversion and answer some questions. Is your visor cloth or vinyl? Did your visor have a g door opener system in it, but no homelink? I order a visit with homelink, but I have yet to received it. I ordered the GA part number listed in this topic. I hope it cloth, but then I will need to order the pass side to match.
Ok, so I have a 2012 CC XLT with Steel, the part number should be: BC3Z-2504105-GS but it does not show as valid. Any ideas? -G is crew cab and -S is steel. There is a -BS and a -S for the Super and Regular Cabs.
Wondered if anyone has updated info? I checked with local dealer as well as through ford.com and price is much higher. Also, does anyone know weather install is fairly easy?, weather it wrks, and how to program?
Looking into replacing my lighted visor with a Home Link equipped OEM visor.
During my investigation, I discovered two almost identical part numbers forSuper Duty visors with the Home Link system. As mentioned above, part #BC3Z-2504105-GA comes up when you search for "Crew Cab" parts as I did, but there is also part #BC3Z-2504105-FA that comes up under the "Super Cab" search.
What could possibly be the difference in visors between a Crew Cab and a Super Cab? The cabs are longer not wider, right? There is however almost $100.00 difference in price between the two with the Crew Cab being more expensive! Naturally, I have a Crew Cab, but it sure doesn't make any sense to me why they'd be different.
Anyone have any thoughts or knows some facts? No sense in paying $100+ for the same visor..
On my 2009 F-150 I just got a visor with home link out of a wrecked Lincoln. My factory visor had a spot to snap the home link module in. I just had to cut a hole in the fabric. I can't remember if it was plug and play or if I had to solder it.
Only took a couple hours and saved a few hundred bucks.
