I am taking the 5.8 liter gas engine and C6 trans out and putting in a 7.3 IDI diesel with a ZF 5 speed manual. The vehicle is an 89 Ford F250 HD 4wd. Being that the gas engine weighs approximately 600 lbs and the diesel weighs 900 lbs I was considering adding a leaf to the front suspension leaf springs. Is this proper or am I being a little paranoid.

good luck trying to smog that thing in the PRK.
adding a leaf cant hurt anything but your camber
if youre going through all that work, straight axle it.

1989 diesels do not need to be smogged. Additionally gas to diesel swaps are commonplace in CA. All that is required is that the diesel engine come out of a vehicle which is the same year or newer than the vehicle it is going into. In my case, I am taking an 89 7.3L and putting it in an 89 gas job. Nevertheless, thank you for your response.

Study the truck's VC label:

Then get the front springs from a JY truck whose FGAWR is ~300 lbs higher than yours.
