Can you change an adjustable pedal to a fixed pedal? The reason is...Ford dealer says fixed pedal assembly is 128.00 and the adjustable pedal assembly is 640.00. HELP!

How about free?

It should however there may be other or many other parts you would have to change to convert

What is it doing??

I don't think you have to replace the whole assembly You may be able to buy just the sensor,

Also did you know there is a RECALL on many 02s (most) for the ACCELERATOR pedal??? Can the dealer prove yours was already done???
This was not a TSB but a Real Recall I recieved a letter from Ford to get it done, but it was already done by that time likley late 02 or 03

Also Google Bulletin Number: 03B03

I know I had an 02 and the recall came out just after my pedal was replaced under warranty.

Check it out you may be covered.

EDIT===============>
Or Ask dealer for just the sensor after you know the price. Also Rock Auto lists APS108 for $154.79
Your Dealer should be Ashamed so do a little hunting get the price for the motorcraft part from another dealer and go back in armed with this information and they will be less inclined to rip you off next time!

I hate having to teach my dealer not to mess me but it MUST BE DONE!

What it is doing..

Thanks for the information but I have a diesel so that throttle sensor won't work on mine. Dealer said it is fixed by a pedal assembly replacement. I found an adjustable pedal assembly for $156 so where the $640 come from beats me (I am sure it is a Ford part).
I got the TSB on the pedal but couldn't find the recall notice on it. The TSB I found was back in '03 and from what I have found via internet is that there have been a lot of complaints on the adjustable pedal and some hopes of a recall in the near future.
What is going on with the truck is when I am driving or taking off after a stop, the engine seems to miss or hesitate and when I mash the pedal down more, it picks up like normal. It was only doing it at around 55 mph but now mph doesn't matter. It's at take off, 35-40, 55-65, 70 just whenever. Now when I have it on cruise control, it is a-okay with no problems at all. Just seems to be when I am controlling speed, etc.

I am having the same problem with my ex too. Exactly the same symptoms as what yours is having. My dealer didn't want to work with me very much on it and have said they have't ever seen this problem. Imagine that! Also not really wild about having to spend $700 on the whole assembly.

As stated the entire adjustable pedal assembly does not need to be replaced. The accelerator is serviceable however an adjustable pedal is not the same as a non-adjustable pedal as it has an integral adjustable mount. If you use the OEM part remember to position the accelerator pedal in the most rearward (toward the driver) position before disconnecting the adjuster cable and unbolting it. Even if you find an aftermarket replacement sensor you are going to want to remove the pedal assembly to replace it.

FYI - Field Service Action 03B03 which called for the replacement of the accelerator pedal expired on May 31, 2005. The part number listed in the FSA is 2C3Z-9F836-DE which may still be a good part number, or it may supersede to another part or may even no longer be available... you will need to ask a Ford parts counterman. Perhaps one of the parts guys here can validate the number for you.

Good luck!

Differences between pedal assemblies

I was wanting to know if there is any difference in the cable length or Ohm values from the adj pedal assemblies to the fixed pedal assemblies. From the pics I have found they look like direct replacement as far as bolt holes and size. The plug even looks the same as best as I can tell. Any help would be appreciated I just can't spend $600.00 right now.

So nobody still knows if you can replace the adjustable pedal assembly with a fixed? I need to fix mine, have the typical hit or miss no acceleration issue.
