my truck is in the tranny shop right now getting a full rebuild, new triple disk converter, etc. my question is should i have him put synthetic oil back in there? im sure its better to have in the long run, but does a tranny need a "break in", or in other words...am i going to have to change the fluid after so long anyway since its a new tranny? thanks for the help

Personally, I would break it in with regular fluid first.

Thats funny, There is no break in on an auto trans. Put synthetic in it and run it for 50 or so thousand miles. BTS puts Synthetic in from the get go and they dont change it right away, Thats a waste.

Shure if rebuilding with used parts.
I have had fluids tested. Its worthwild to breakin and then go syn.
I have rebuilds with 250k on them and still strong. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif Hard to believe iam doing something wrong. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

You should also see what comes out of some of those PI converters out of the box!

BB---What fluid do you use 315 or 204?

Hard to beleive BTS is doing something wrong too. I think Brian knows what he is doing, What exactly do you think is breaking in??? If you wanna use a "break in oil" thats up to you but its a waste.

When I purchased my truck the dealer said not to use synthetic in the motor until after 100,000 as this motor doesn't even break in until then and synthetic would keep the rings from seating to the cylinder walls. When rebuilding the transmission they recommend soaking the frictions in fluid for at least 15 minuets before install. (Use the recommended fluid first.)

Prove to me its a waste?
Have your fluid analyzed after breakin. See for yourself.

This was done to make a good product better.
Also why some OEM transmissions are coming sealed and with 100k service.

Above post is about a rebuilt trans not a BTS.
BTS goes the extra mile.

If and when I should get the trans rebuilt, I would run the regular stuff first. Then since I have an external filter then change to Mobil 1. I would install an external filter to catch whatever is in the cooler/radiator cooler ect. That way all the bad guys are caught before returning to the transmission. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Just my 0.02.

The only problem I see with using dino ATF then switching to synthetic ATF is that unless the system is completely flushed, there will be a mixture of the two ATFs left in the tranny. Dropping the pan will drain only about 1/2 the ATF the tranny holds.
