Of course, the first hot day of the year, (90+) and I flip on the AC and get nothing but hot air. I popped the hood to see if the compressor is running. It is cycling on and off. On about 3 seconds, off about 5 seconds. A little over a year ago, I had a bolt grind through the condenser line and lost the Freon, (or whatever the coolant is), charge. At that time the compressor would not come on at all, so I don't think I have lost the charge again.

What else would cause the compressor to cycle on and off like this.

Thanks,

Most systems leak a little all the time. If you feel up to it & the system was evacuated after the bolt incident, Just add a can of 134a to the system.. Its available at most auto part stores along with the hose needed to install it...

Did you look around the front of the compressor to make sure the seal hasn't worn out..... if you see oil around the front of the compressor you probably will need a new one.
