. Every time I read negative opinions about K&N based on "they say" and "I heard" my Crap Detector goes off.
Wasn't just I heard, was I lost, as in I lost my turbo compressor wheel to a K &N. Best part about that was when the turbo shop called me, he didn't even have to ask me if I had a K&n filter, He TOLD me that I had a K&N filter! He was able to tell by the dust damage pattern to the compressor wheel ! The guy has seen so many of the things torn up the same way he can identify the offending air filter. That pretty well says it. Even K&n if you look at THEIR OWN specifications , they only claim to remove 99 % of the dirt of a factory type element. That 1 % adds up over time. 1% extra dirt is enough over the long run to cause a LOT of damage.
A K&N filter is PERFORMANCE part, it cannot be all things to all people. it will make the truck go quicker, but as in any performance modification, there will be a trade off. If it was the best way to go overall, the factory engineers would have put the things in.
I would not put another one back in my truck, too expensive a rig to risk.
That said, It is a PERFORMANCE product, and I do keep one in my Volvo 940 turbo, knowing full well what I'm doing to the thing, but that darn car is just more fun than a barrell of monkeys when you stand on the throttle every once in a while

You play you pay  But I'm realistic about it ( and it's turbo is showing signs of premature wear right now..but I had fun doing it).
