I have been in contact with Jobe Performance in Fort Worth TX, he is willing to build a intake system that is designed for the E-Van 7.3. He will need a Van to use for mock up and would probably be willing to give the donor Van a free-be. So is there anyone in the area willing to help with this. I have to tell you this guy is brilliant check his site Jobe Performance - Home Page.

Send me a Private Message with some more info on the air intake modification project. I don't live very far from Ft. Worth and could leave them my van for as long as they needed to do the modifications.

Glad to here you boys are willing to step up, we could all greatly befit from this project. I think Jobe has some great ideas for the 7.3, he has a great engine venting system that will work on the vans as well.

I think we're all waiting with baited breath on this one. Making a cold air intake with filter box for our vans is no small task.

If you were to see the length of the PM that I sent to Mike earlier......

I think I might have covered the anticipation of all of us "van guys".

I almost feel bad about it (ok.....so not reeeeeeaaaaallllll bad.....but a little bad nonetheless).

in short..........I told him I "guinea pigged" the first pcm for the vans that Jody did (look how that has turned out) and would be more than happy to do the same for Jobe with an intake.

As it turns out.....my schedule will allow him to have the van for a couple of months if needed (and I would be more than happy to "get greasy" with him if needed (I would actually like that opportunity if it can happen)).

My van is damn sure not the prettiest thing on the road.....but I drive it hard while out on the road. I can definitely test out a new system for him!!!!!!! This thing was a "test vehicle" for me (a couple hundred thousand miles ago), just to see if I actually wanted to use a diesel for my business. Only planned on a few trips with it (20K miles or so)......then buying a newer, better one if it worked. I just love my ol' van to much to part with it though. WAY to many mods to give it up now (including the 27" HD tv, sat. and Xbox (yeah, still acting like a kid with the video games))

1st test would be pulling the trailer through the Texas Hill Country in mid April. With the setup I have in my sig.....I have to keep quite a careful watch of the egt's on a few of the hills. The REAL test would come when pulling through the mountains heading to San Diego in the middle of the Summer (the windmills outside of Joshua Tree National Park are a BIATCH (and that's the fist leg of the hard stuff).

Would be nice to get it to the point of only having to watch the tranny temp gauge from that point on (even the extra cooler has a hard time on that trip).

I just can't help but think a MUCH better flowing intake will help with the temps (still considering the Snow water/meth system just for my California trips).

A GOOD intake combined with water/meth......... I MIGHT even let my father pull the trailer through the mountains.

If this works out........I will do the Cali. trip this year w/out water/meth (if I do break down and buy it soon), as I already have a good baseline of experience on that pull and know where the "rough" areas are.

Krap......really didn't mean to go into a lengthy post (kinda like the pm).....just excited!!!!!!

Sorry guys.

On another note........

Thank you Yardbrew for backing into second spot, if Jobe can hold out for my time frame. I really do appreciate it (I just like being the Guinea pig I guess).
I know you've been around here for a few years longer than me and I always respect what you have to say. You, Blizzard, LarryM and a few others have saved my butt on more than one occasion. :icon_wink:

I just want to try and give some more back to the community if I can.

I want to add:
if this does"pan out" expect PLENTY of pictures!!!!!!!!!!
I just picked up a new camera a couple of weeks ago (last one was stolen out of the trailer a few months ago (which now stays locked:icon_rolleyes:)) and I need a good excuse to learn how to use all the features of the new one.

I'm with you on the water/meth thing.. Was considering that recently too, but thought I might as well wait until I can get a better intake. No need to complicate matters, I can't even use all the power I have now...!

I will buy the intake kit if it looks as trick as his website pics of other trucks.
I would love to have a big-ole filter for my turbo to suck-on.
The turbo will spool-up extra fast with this setup;.

The kit would need to be on the same side as the trucks, correct? The coolant tank will need to be re-located. Or maybe even a new square/rectangle type coolant box be used to go up near the firewall. Those clear food service containers may make a great coolant container, and may be something ready to buy/install. You wouldnt want the coolant tank where the battery is inside the custom truck airbox pics, in case it exploded the filter would suck up the liquid? Keep the tank outside the airbox for sure.

it';s gonna be tight.

If the stock airbox was removed, it would allow room to install the fuel mod equipment like the pickups.

If the kit will allow us to bolt it in without hacking anything, it will be a hit with many of us. As long as we can re-install the stock airbox back it would be popular.

I spoke to Jobe today, he will be ready to start the project in 3 to 4 weeks. With a little luck we may have a very cool air intake that actually works, if you have not been on his site go, let him know your interested in this project.
