Yesterday, the Friday evening of the holiday weekend, my air controller switch locked into the defogger position. It still cools but will not direct the air anywhere but the windshield, regardless of the switch position. Any ideas on what happened, and how to correct it?

a vacuum line is off.
Mine did the same thing and it was one up near the firewall on the passenger side. Grey colored vacuum hose that went into a small canister next to the MAP sensor.

I've heard of others with the same symptoms...but a different line was off.

Is your vacuum pump running? Had mine replaced under warranty at 15000 miles.

If you have ESOF 4X4, I would guess it doesn't work now either.

Had the same problem a month ago. Went and bought a new pump for about $80. and put in. Takes about 5 minutes. I didn't feel like dealing with the warranty crap for a cheap fix like that.

Deuce - This just happened to me this past week. My ESOF is working fine, and nothing else seems to be malfunctioning, so I would be very interested if you find a solution not requiring the replacement of the vacuum pump. I just hit 5K miles, and was doing alot of driving on forest roads - maybe a stick or rock knocked the vacuum hose off. I will check that tomorrow - if I can find it...

My problem was the vacuum pump - $100 and 15 minutes later, all is cool. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Check your backup light fuse. I had the same problem, that's all it was. Lloyd

mine did it when it was new but got it in sept so forgot about it all winter last spring it started act up scheduled an appoment and before i could get it in it started working. but i did roll the glove box down and straighjten some of the vacume line and i think thats what fixed it.
