I just installed one of the Ford AIS air filters on my truck. I was wondering what I should expect other then a filter with more surface area. Will I see any better performance? Will I see any better milage? Thanks.

P.S. If anyone is wondering this air filter looks to be a lot better then the stock one and it is very easy to install (about 30 minutes or less)

wITH A STOCK EXHAUST YOU WON'T NOTICE MUCH OF ANY CHANGE, AT LEAST i DIDN'T. bUT REPLACE THAT RESTRICTIVE fACTORY MUFFLER WITH A BTM and you will sure notice a change. Between the BTM/AIS/Zoodad my EGT's dropped over 100 degrees and the turbo spools up much quicker!!!
More air in means you need to get more air out!!!

To optimize the AIS you really need to do the ZooDad mod and make sure the rubber flap is not partially covering the air inlet of the AIS. Well worth the effort. And a very good choice for a filter. Now all you need is exhaust. The BTM is a good choice but a full 4 inch system is a definite improvement.

Got Gauges???

Good choice.

Take a hole saw or a spade (woodboring) bit or a dremel tool and cut an opening approximately the size of the snoot for the intake. If you're concerned about critters entering, then take some hardware cloth and make a sandwich out of two layers with a layer of screen between the two and rivet/screw it in place over the zoodad hole. Increases air flow or at least provides a more direct air flow route.

You can also get a fender sleeve to direct air through the side of the airbox, but you have to cut a 3.5" hole in the side of your AIS.

I did both and get no restrictor gauge movement whereas I was at approximately 30% with just the fender sleeve and approx 60% without either.

I did the zoodad first, it was enough with the stock turbo and injectors. After the injector and van turbo swap I did the fender mod, but used two 1.5" holes. Now I'm hitting 30lbs of boost and the filterminder barely moves.

I installed the AIS last week also, but did not do the fender
sleeve. I was thinking of doing the zoodad mod. Would just drilling
three or four 1" holes do the trick? Didn't want to cut one big hole.

Funny, I was going to do the same thing but after cutting 3-4 1" holes, I just decided to open it up with one long retangle opening and call it good. I found a piece of gutter screen - the screen you use to keep leaves out of your roof gutters - at Home Depot and it had a large diamond grille and a fine screen on the back. I cut a piece to fit over the opening to keep bugs, small animals, screwdrivers, and import cars from getting sucked up into the air filter. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

With the AIS and Zoodad, I noticed a slight decrease in EGT's but more importantly, I wanted to protect the turbo from getting trashed since I drive a lot of gravel mountain roads in the summer.

I drilled a series of about 20 3/8" holes and noticed a big difference!!!
