I installed the Ford AIS system and I dont hear anymore chatter or surge coming from the Turbo. I took my truck up some hills that would cause the chatter before, but now it is gone. I did drill two 2 inch holes in the front of the grill for better air flow.

What kind of intake did you have before?

The FIPK? If so, the reason it stopped chattering is becaue you restricted airflow, do the fender sleeve deal and I bet the surge would come back.

Agreed...

If he had surge at all. So many people confuse the back wash when you lift the throttle with surge that its getting hard to find somebody that truly has experienced surge or really knows what it is.

Well here is a little history of what I have done. A while back I went from stock to the AFE stage 1. I couldn't notice any chatter from the turbo with that setup. Then I went to the K&N FIPK and when I would climb hills at lower rpms I would then here the turbo chattering. Then I recently installed the AIS and I have not heard any chatter. I assume there is a difference between turbo chatter and surge?

I live on a really dusty road so decided to take the K&N off. I inspected the intake, and the turbo. From what I could tell it looked pretty clean inside. In fact I didn't notice any dust particles in the K&N intake. I think I will keep the AIS.

When I would climb a hill with low RPM a sound would come from the turbo that sounded like ch.ch.ch.ch.ch. Like it was chattering and gasping for air.

I do hear the other noise that comes from the turbo right after my Auto shifts and it sounds like whhoooosh....I believe this to be normal though.

Hope you like my sound mimics /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The whooosh is normal.

What RPMs are you running when the Cha Cha Cha occurs? Surge is normally in the 1600 to 2000 RPM range and will go away when you give it more throttle. It is also noticeable on the boost gauge.

Go on Greg Robs video page and there is a video from inside a truck that is experiencing surge. It is audible and visible on the boost gauge. You will have to look around to find it but it is a clear example of surge.
