Well I replaced the original early 99 PSD with the AIS with fender inlet. I just did the fender inlet as I noticed that the AIS pulled down on the gage about half way. I have a SCMT with 4" exhaust and gages so now I hope I can get sufficient air to make this run better. I am using the 60hp program but now I think I can up the ACMT to 90hp or maybe 120hp program.

I read that there is an improve in airflow when using WOT a few times.
Anyone care to comment on your experience.

I am running the same setup as you are with a 60 HP chip. My filter minder will go half way on WOT everytime! Don't know if it is flowing better or worse than my old drop in K&N? Can't notice any difference in power between the two. I will be getting a 6 position chip (DI) in the near future, but I am worried about the flow of the AIS with the DI chip at the 100+ HP settings?

I am going to test the filter minder tomorrow and see if it is pulled down as far as it was with the inlet from the front snorkle alone.
With the 60 hp program I would be suprised if I see any improvement over what I have in regard to seat of the pants acceleration. I do hope the filter mind will not be pulled down as far as it is now at WOT. I know with the 3 1/2" hole from the fender inlet with the front snorkle there should not be any issues with airflow out of the filter and into the turbo inlet.

I bought this because I live in Florida and there is sand everywhere and I wanted better airflow but also better airfilration.

I have the 3.5 inlet hole in the side of the box and I am still getting the filter minder pegged half way at WOT? I did not feel any difference between the two airfilters. Better air flow? who knows. Better filtering? Without a doubt! I will probably get the filter minder to read 100% when I get my new chip. O'well, I should of spent the extra $ on an AFE II.

The filter minder pulling down isn't due to an air restriction. I've read a great thread on these forums on this subject, hopefully I'll be able to find it.... But for what it's worth, it concluded the filter minder is simply more sensitive on the AIS than the stock airbox.

You can take the element completely out of the AIS, and the filter minder will still close up under WOT. Try taking the old filter minder and popping it into the new AIS.

It most likely doesn't flow as good as a K&N but it doesn't let the dirt through that a K&N does either.

I have an early AFE setup, I guess Stage 1 if there was one. Anyway it's the one that seals up against the hood. My OEM filter minder would always be around 25% every time I checked it so I figured it was restriction from the cheesy factory intake. I made a modification to the AFE that opened it up from another source and so far my OEM filter minder has never got off "0". Just my .02.

[/ QUOTE ]This is the eact reason we developed the foam fender sleeve. We found that by bring air intothe AIS from two places the restriction of the AIS air box is greatly reduced and the filter can more than handle the extra air. Here is some info. http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/ford_ais

I did some crude, but comparative testing with the stock air box and a several filters including a drop-in K&N, the AIS airbox, the AIS with its filter and finally with the fender inlet. Let me tell you in NO uncertain terms, the modified AIS outflows the K&N in the stock airbox by a considerable margin (more airbox than filter to blame).
