Hello, everyone, I'm relatively new here, but I've gleaned volumes of information from this site. I was previously registered as Hayguy1, but for some reason I can't get that account to work anymore. Anyway, in my web browsing last week I came upon www.greasel.com These guys convert diesels to run on used vegetable oil discarded by restaurants. The conversion basically just entail an additional filtering system, and a heat exchanger to heat the oil before it's injected to bring it up to a temperature where its viscosity is very similar to diesel fuel. Their system utilized two tanks, one for diesel, one for the veggie oil. The diesel is still used for startup, and of couse shut down in order to be in the system for startup. One guy who used it said he went through about 3 gallons of diesel fuel in the first 110 gallons of veggie oil. Just wondering if any of you guys have either tried or heard anything about using a system like this. From what I can tell, they've done their research. Let me know what you think. One interesting side note was that Rudolph Diesel's first engines were actually designed to run on vegetable oils. His colleagues took his designed and tweaked it after his death to make it work with petroleum based fuels. Ok, I'll shut up now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
