I replaced my alternator 9/2011. The last couple of days, I noticed the voltage (on the scangauge) has been at 12.2to 11.7 Volts.

Question:
How many years (hours, miles ?) average should I be able to get out of an alternator?

The one I have was rebuilt.

Can I check or measure anything else besides the battery wire to the alternator?

What should I measure at the two wire plug in the alternator?

I measured 12.0 vdc to ground at the + terminal on the alternator with the truck running. (Fluke meter)

Brought the alternator to a rebuilder. $185.00 plus tax for a new unit.

I was told 120,000 miles is lifespan. Of course that depends on connections, batteries etc.

I have seen rebuilt alternators last anywhere from 10 minutes to 10 years 100K+ miles.

Rebuilt ones are a crap shoot unless they are rebuilt right and usually a alternator/starter shop in your local area is best.
